From the classroom

Term 1 Wrap up across the school.
Preps
The Preps have settled very well into our classroom routines. It has been a big term as students have become familiar with attending school each day and learning the expectations of the classroom.
This term we have been learning to identify letters and their sounds and to record numbers. We also enjoyed a visit from the Responsible Pet Ownership Program and had a fun sports session with the Year 10 students from RSC.
We are looking forward to another fantastic term of learning in Term 2!
Grade 1/2
This term we have been building our skills across all areas of learning, showing effort, resilience and a positive attitude towards new challenges.
In reading, we have explored a range of engaging texts such as Wombat Stew, Where the Wild Things Are, and Feathers for Phoebe, helping us to develop our understanding of stories, characters and vocabulary.
In writing, we have been learning to use different elements in sentences, and we even had the opportunity to present some of our work to the whole school.
In maths, we have been learning about place value, completing fluency tasks to improve our speed of recall, and developing our addition and subtraction strategies. We also enjoyed learning some dances and using virtual reality headsets in Harmony Day, along with participating in Clean Up Australia Day, visiting the Rochester Murals, which provided great opportunities for community connection and fun. It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence, demonstrate respect and responsibility, and consistently try their best in everything they do.
Grade 3/4
What a fantastic start to the year it has been in Grade 3/4! Students have worked hard establishing classroom routines and settling into their new learning environment.
In reading and writing, we read a range of texts to support our understanding of narratives. We learnt more about Australia through the text Off We Go Around Australia. Students enjoyed discovering different places and features of our country while building their comprehension and writing skills. We have had some great whole class discussions during this unit!
In maths, we have covered a range of topics throughout the term, including; data representation, properties of number, operations with a focus on addition & subtraction and time. A big focus for the term has been on developing routines for maths fluency and review practice.
We also had lots of fun staying active this term! Students participated in tennis sessions with Milo and enjoyed our engaging Dance Kinect sessions - especially sharing our dances with parents during the open morning.
To finish the term, we celebrated Harmony Day by wearing orange and taking part in exciting VR experiences, learning all about Indigenous culture and storytelling.
Well done to all students on a great Term 1!
Grade 5/6
What an amazing first term we have had in Grade 5/6. We started the term with coding sessions at Quantum Victoria where students either made an item to print or they coded their vehicle to perform some fire fighting rescues. We had tennis sessions with Milo which were great fun and they gave us the skills and confidence to play in the Campaspe Tennis Tournament. We learned 3 dances in one week through the Kinect 2 Dance Program. We performed a brilliant concert for our parents at the end of the week. We had students compete in the Campaspe Swimming Program and helped to clean up Australia. Our Grade 5 students completed NAPLAN testing and did a fantastic job with this. Throughout the term we completed book studies on 3 short books. This was great fun, even if not all the students were delighted with how the books ended! In writing, we focused on producing a warning narrative. These turned out to be very entertaining pieces! In maths, we learned about making and reading graphs in our unit on Data. We improved our understanding of the property of numbers, such as factors, prime and composite numbers. We also worked on how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. This has been a very busy term, but one that we all have really enjoyed.
