Beyond the classroom

Drama ‘Cloudstreet’- excursion 14/5

Drama students and some cast members of ’The Wedding Singer’ thoroughly enjoyed the immersive five hour performance at Malthouse on Tuesday 14th May.

The show was an amazing experience, which enthralled and engaged a theatre full of secondary students over the course of a full day .

A rewarding and totally engrossing piece of theatre and possibly a once in a lifetime experience!

Castlemaine Secondary College Artist-in-Residence call for expressions-of-interest

A new art facility is under construction at the Castlemaine Secondary College Blakeley Road campus. Meanwhile, parents of the Art Support Group are repurposing the art building on the old senior campus that is retained by the school into 2020. It will furnish exclusive tenure of space for a series of artists-in-residence, worth $2,500, of five months each.

The artist-in-residence may avail themselves, from 8am to 10pm daily, of a purpose-built studio well-furnished with benches, sinks, wall-display and storage, with ample lighting from windows facing bushland, covered outdoor areas with on-site parking to the door, an office space with internet, kitchen and other facilities, and the opportunity to arrange to use a large darkroom and capacious gas-fired kiln.

A further $1,000, donated by parents, is offered for materials toward a part of the artist’s project to involve students during the College’s Learning Festival in December. Senior art students will have the opportunity to observe the progress of a significant project by a professional artist.

Expressions-of-interest are invited from visual arts professionals, emerging or established, and living in Mount Alexander with interest in space and opportunity to realise a sustained and ambitious project involving some mentorship of budding artists.

Applications close on June 17.
