Specialist Showcase

Discovery Centre
Welcome back to the Discovery Centre for Term 2. We have started off this term reading books relating to ANZAC Day and the students are very interested in hearing these stories. We have an ANZAC display and many students are borrowing these books from this display too. One of our Dad’s Paul Douglas, Keegan’s dad has also lent us some of his medals and war hats to add to our display. Thank you Paul.
Book of the Week
Our featured book this week is another twisted time travel adventure in the “Frankie Fish” series by Peter Helliar, ex SFX parent and comedian. Frankie has always wanted to go to the Olympics, but when his big sister takes the sonic suitcase and runs away to Ancient Greece, it looks like she might get there first! It’s up to Frankie and his best friend, Drew to bring her home - but what happens when Saint Lou is determined to stay?
Anna Ciddor Visit
We were very lucky to have author and illustrator Anna Ciddor come to speak to our Year 4, 5 and 6 students at the end of last term. Anna gave a wonderful presentation focussing on her two latest titles ‘“The family with two front doors” and was based upon her grandmother’s life growing up as a Jewish girl in Poland before the war. Her latest book “52 Mondays” tells the story of growing up in Melbourne in the 1960’s. The students asked some great questions and Anna was able to give them some great writing tips. There is now a writing competition open to Year 4-6 students which closes next Monday 29th April. Anna will judge the entries and then award some prizes to the winners.
