FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Nicholas Boyhan

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to Term Two.  I hope that you all enjoyed a holy and peaceful Easter and had an opportunity to relax, reflect on the meaning of this truly sacred time and to enjoy the company of family and friends.

Family-School Partnerships

I would like to thank families for the way in which they have partnered effectively with us to support and enrich student learning and wellbeing this year.  This sort of collaboration has been a hallmark of St Francis Xavier School throughout my time working here and it is my aim to strengthen this in the years ahead. As a school we value highly the importance of the role of parents in the education of their children as parents are the first and continuing educators of their children throughout their school life. It is our aim to  leverage the diversity and strengths of families to help our students flourish.

It has been encouraging to see the continued broad community participation and contribution to school events such as the Twilight Sports which were held at the end of Term One.  We were thrilled to have such fantastic collaboration between staff, parents and students, leading to a highly successful night. The Parents Association did an outstanding job, yet again, providing delicious food for families and selling tickets for the Easter Raffle.

Pick My Project

Over the Holidays and in the first week of term, the SFX Pick My Project Team met with the final two companies who have tendered for the oval renovation.  While we await their final costings, we have been glad to see the money come into our account. We hope to make a final decision within the next week and anticipate that works will commence some time in May.  Works will take around six weeks and we hope they will be completed by the end of the mid year holidays, depending on weather conditions.

State Calisthenics Championships

Hi I’m Sierra and recently I won my State Championships for my Calisthenic Solo which is a little bit like gymnastics. I was really excited when I went up on stage, I had won this before in 2017 when I  was in Grade Three. I received a little diamond rocking horse.

This year I got a big glass trophy that says under 11 State Champion of 2019.

State Swimming Championships

Congratulations to Joshua Appleton on his outstanding performance, finishing fifth in the Victorian State Swimming Championships in the 50m Breaststroke at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday.  Click here to view the video of Josh’s swim. He is in the white cap in the third lane from the top of the screen.

Woolworths Promotion

St Francis Xavier is excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program again this year.

During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you.

From now until June 25th 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet (sheets will be available at school, in store or online at https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/discover/get-involved.  Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into your local Woolworths collection box at Eltham Store.

The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more!

We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at School.

School Uniform

The transition period for the change from the old to the new school uniform officially closed at the end of 2018. It would appear that all families have purchased updated uniforms for their children, as evident in the recent school photos. We would prefer that only uniform with the new logo is worn to school in 2019.

Parents are requested to ensure that their children wear their correct school uniform to school each day.  We would ask that particular attention is paid to children’s footwear. Students are only to wear their Sports Uniform and runners to school on their Sport and Phys Ed days. They should be wearing either white or green socks every day. They should not be wearing black socks or socks with any emblems or logos at all.

If you require any items from the Uniform Shop, it will be open this  Monday 29 April 8.30 to 9.30am. They also have a whole new range of colours for their lunch order bags $10.

The Winter Uniform is required to be worn in Terms Two & Three.

Updating CareMonkey Profiles

Parents are reminded to ensure that their children’s CareMonkey Profiles are kept up to date.  Please pay particular attention to your child’s health information and parent’s contact details.   You can best support the staff in their vitally important job of caring for your child by ensuring that this information is kept up to date.  This will be particularly important for Year Six Students attending Interschool Sports in the coming weeks.

Best wishes for the term ahead,

Nicholas Boyhan
