STUDENT WELLBEING

RESILIENCE
One of the primary methods for teaching your child/ren the importance of being resilient is through the use of verbal and non-verbal feedback when you catch them in the act of trying hard and sticking with tasks at home. The following phrases can be used to deliver the message to them that they are being resilient.
“You really put a lot of energy into that.”
“Great effort.”
“I like it when you try hard.”
“You really tried hard. Doesn’t that feel good?”
“I’m so glad you kept trying.”
“I knew you wouldn’t quit.”
“You didn’t give up!”
“You sure don’t give up easily.”
“You’re not going to let mistakes stop you.”
Take the time to teach, model and reinforce to your children what you have achieved through your own resilient behaviour. Explain to them that their success in doing things comes from their own skill and effort and not because what they succeeded at was easy or they were lucky.
