VTAC UPDATE: New Date for ATAR Release; Domestic December Round Not Running in 2021

Following VCAA’s announcement that VCE results will now be released at 7am, Thursday 16 December to allow time to complete the Consideration of Educational Disadvantage (CED) process, VTAC confirms that the ATAR will be released to VCE students at the same time. This means the December offer round for domestic students will not run in 2021. The first offer round for domestic year 12 students will be the January round, with offers released on 14 January 2022. A summary of these changes is below and information provided to Year 12 students on Teams has been updated to reflect the revised VTAC Important dates

  • VCE results and ATAR – 16 December (7am)
  • Change of Preference (CoP) deadline for first round offers – 20 December (4pm)
  • First offer round now January (not December) – 14 January 2022

CASPer Test Requirement for Year 12 Students Applying to Certain Courses

The CASPer test is an admission requirement for 2022 Victorian undergraduate Teacher education courses, Nursing courses at Victoria University and Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland. VTAC provides important information about the CASPer admission test here and in this fact sheet. Charles Sturt Advantage – Early offer program closing 31 August

The Charles Sturt Advantage early offer program is a chance for a Year 12 student to get into Charles Sturt University based on work they’ve already done and skills they already have by receiving a guaranteed offer to study their preferred course before their final exams. Australian and Permanent Resident students are eligible to apply, and must address the following three questions: 

• How a Charles Sturt degree will enable you to be a positive influence in your community. 

• When you showed resilience during a difficult time. 

• A time when you demonstrated empathy and why you took the actions you did. 

There are 51 courses on offer, and students can list up to three in their application. Applications close 31 August 2021. Offers will be made in late September 2021. Students interested in this early entry program are encouraged to visit Charles Sturt Advantage to find out about the participating courses and to access the online application.

Defence Civilian Undergraduate Sponsorship – Applications Close 5 September

Are you a Year 12 student interested in studying engineering or ICT at university in 2022? What if you could study at one of the best universities in Australia, participate in paid work experience placements and complete your degree with no HELP debt? The Defence Civilian Undergraduate Sponsorship (DCUS) is open to aspiring university students who wish to pursue a degree through the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra campus at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). Applications for the next DCUS intake closes 11:30pm 5 September 2021. Visit Defence Civilian Undergraduate Sponsorship to learn about the eligibility requirements and selection process plus what students should do before applying. University of Sydney Upcoming Online Events 

University of Sydney hosts a number of online events, including an online Open day on 28 August, to help students discover what it's like to study their bachelor's degrees. These events are best suited for students from Years 10-12, and include tips on your school subjects, preparing for uni and how to choose a course. University of Melbourne Residential Colleges Virtual Open Day – Sunday 29 August, 9am to 3pm

Visit the University of Melbourne’s historic, beautiful and modern residential college campuses from your home. Explore the grounds, facilities, student rooms and meet current residents at each of our colleges. A timetable showing the times of the sessions for each Melbourne residential college and registration to attend can be found here.

Swinburne Open Nights – 30 August to 2 September

Students are invited to Swinburne Open Nights, an online series of study area-specific events where they’ll be able to browse Swinburne courses and subjects at their own pace in a virtual world (kind of like a subject supermarket, only uni-style), and pitch their questions at Swinburne staff and students. Virtual BiG Day In – Tuesday 31 August, 10am to 12pm

The BiG Day In events are aimed at senior secondary school and university students interested in careers in ICT and technology. BiG Day In helps students obtain more information about ICT and technology careers, and hopefully helps them make a better-informed decision about their future. Monash University Get Ready to Apply Expo – Wednesday 1 September, 4pm to 7pm

This Monash virtual expo will assist Year 12 students preparing their VTAC application by providing key information about Monash courses, admissions, scholarships, support programs and pathways, as well as an opportunity to ask Monash course advisers questions via live chat. University of Melbourne Girl’s Programming Network Term 3 workshop – Saturday 4 September, 9:30am to 4pm

The Term 3 GPN workshop at the University of Melbourne has been rescheduled to Saturday 4 September and registrations are currently open. You don’t need any programming experience to come along and this workshop is open to girls in high school across all year levels with beginner, intermediate and advanced streams available based on a student’s prior experience with coding. REMINDER: Virtual Tertiary Open Days 

Attending these tertiary info events is highly recommended as they provide a unique and valuable opportunity to explore course options and learn about courses of interest from academics and current students, plus explore the services and facilities the tertiary institutions have to offer. See the below document for a list of the upcoming 2021 Virtual Open Days and advice on Getting the most out of a Virtual Open day. Students are encouraged to register for as many as possible so that if they miss one they can receive any correspondence and recordings from the institutions.
