School Community

Tonight!

Events and Social Committee

There is a lot happening in our school community at the moment that is the direct result of the tireless effort of our many parent volunteers!

Mother’s Day

Tomorrow is a day we celebrate the Mother’s and women who play such an important role in our children’s lives at Galilee.

There will be a morning tea for Mother’s and significant others beginning at 8am in the School Hall.  There will a raffle with the winners receiving Endota Spa Vouchers with all money raised going to ‘Safe Steps’.  A huge thank you to Year 1 Parent Reps who have worked tirelessly to organise this morning tea.  Also a huge thank you to Cristina and Flowers for Jane for supplying the beautiful flowers you will see and to Maria and Store 6 for the morning tea you will be enjoying.

A special Mother’s Day Mass will follow the morning tea at 9:30am.

A Mother’s Day lunch will be held at 12pm.  A huge thank you to Annalise and the Railway Club Hotel in Port Melbourne for hosting this event.  New tickets have just become available due to a last minute cancellation so if you missed out please jump onto this link to secure your ticket now!

A special gift will be sent home with all the children on Friday.  A huge thank you to Mal Orr as always for her wonderful ideas and support in making this happen.

There was a drive to collect filled toiletry bags for Mum’s who find themselves without the necessary items we all take for granted.  Thank you to all those who donated.  A big delivery was made last week to St Kilda Mums.  Also, thank you to all those who made a monetary donation when they were booking their lunch ticket.  $200 dollars will be going directly to St Kilda Mums.

Happy Mother’s Day wonderful women of Galilee!

Disco Thank You!

A huge thank you to the Year 2 & 4 year level representatives who organised and ran the very successful discos on Friday evening.  Over 250 children attended across the two events and a great night was had by all.  This evening would not have been possible without the Year 2 and 4 organisers, the support from the year 2 and 4 parents who volunteered their time on the evening, the staff who came along to the discos and all the effort that went into making sure it was a wonderful event.

Trivia Night - 28 July 2018

Save the Date for the Annual Trivia Night to be held on Saturday 28th July.  We are thrilled to announce we will be at a new venue in Port Melbourne.  This is a fun evening and our major fundraiser for the year.

You will have received a letter this week asking for donations and your help in securing these from local businesses.  If you require any more letters, they will be at the office.  This year we are not asking for items for hampers from the year levels but instead requesting each family donate a bottle of wine, champagne or spirit.  Please see the letter sent home for further details.

Parent Coffee and Catch-Up!

On Thursday, 17th May, parents are invited for a coffee and catch-up in our Galilee Community Room in the Junior Building - where the second hand uniform shop is. This is open to all parents in all year levels. A warm room with tea and coffee will be provided. Feel free to bring a  plate to share as well.

We hope to see lots of you there!

St Francis of Assisi Sustainability Market

On Thursday 21st June, Galilee will be holding a Sustainability Market in line with our STREAM Unit this term. Each class will have a stall with items to sell.

We are looking for help from our parent community and local businesses. In the Community Room, there is a letter ready to be dropped into any local business you think may be able to help. Please take a copy and write down the name of business/es that you will be going to. If you are able to help or have a love for being green, please contact us or your classroom teacher.

Galilee's Going Green!

Tips for going green

- Make compost, or if you don’t want to build your own compost heap, give your organic waste to friends.

- Separate recyclables and recycle them.

- Reuse paper bags, envelopes, paper.

- Maintain possessions instead of discarding them, find ways to upcycle and find a new purpose.

- Bike, walk, and use public transport.

- Use non-toxic cleaners. Vinegar, baking soda, salt and lemon juice are a few of the many natural alternatives.

- Landscape with edible plants. Decorative cabbage, fruit and nut trees are lovely in the yard.

- Get involved in a community garden. Buy your food from local growers.
