Principal's Message

It is always very important to find out from our community, their thoughts on how our school is catering for their youngster's needs.

In a few weeks’ time a survey will be distributed to ask for your thoughts on a number of issues ranging from phones, to school uniform, the P&C and other areas which we are always looking to improve for our students. It would be very much appreciated if you could spend 5 minutes completing this survey when it arrives, as your feedback is very important to us.

As year 7 and 9 students are only too well aware, NAPLAN has just been completed. I would like to congratulate all of our students who sat these tests for the positive way they approached them… well done!

A huge congratulations to our recently appointed School Leaders for 2021-Andre Tauteka, Aylish Mitchell, Jacinta Bazzano and Raquel Withers. This is an outstanding group of School Leaders who I know will be wonderful representatives of Lake Illawarra High School over the coming twelve months.

Thank you to all of the Parents and Caregivers who attended the recent Parent/Teacher evening. It was great to see so many families attend. I know the staff really enjoyed meeting you and discussing the progress of your youngsters.

Finally, well done to all of our students who have represented the school in sport, cultural activities, leadership and the arts. As always, you continue to do our school proud!

From the Deputies' Desk

Welcome to Term 2 and welcome to all the new students who have joined us in the past few weeks; I’m sure you will have a great time here at Lake and make many new friends. There are many opportunities this term as the winter sports well and truly get underway, so I would like to encourage all of our students to take advantage of this and join a team.

Myself and Mr Meizer would like to thank all  of our staff who assisted with our Athletics carnival, and Ms Hartas in particular, for her outstanding organisation. We had a great day over at Myimbarr Oval and from all accounts all our kids were behaved and participated at their best. I would like to wish our School Athletics team all the best as they race, jump or throw for spots in the Zone team to compete at the regional Athletics carnival in Canberra.

Next week we will be sending letters home with instructions on how to access the ‘Parent Portal’ on our Sentral reporting system. The Parent Portal is a way for you to stay in touch with your child’s learning journey. The modules we are using will allow you to see attendance data for the day, this includes the period by period attendance, your child’s timetable, messages by staff to the kids regarding upcoming events here at Lake (which is very handy if the kids forget to give you the information notes!), as well as their mid-term and yearly reports.

We hope that this system will be used by our parent group and further connect school and home as we work together to support our kids.

As always, myself and Mr Meizer are always happy to have a chat with any concerns or questions you may have about what’s happening here at Lake
