Visual Art Exhibition

On Tuesday 8 November, the College proudly opened the Visual Arts Exhibition to students, staff, family and friends. Students work from Art, Media, Product Design and Technology, Studio Arts and Visual Communication Design was on display.

It was a wonderful night and so heartwarming to see such a wonderful attendance from families across all year levels. This is a very exciting night for us, as we celebrate the achievements of our students from Years 7 to 12. A special congratulations to our graduating year 12 Visual Arts classes who stunned everyone with the technical brilliance and complex ideas within their works.

We thank our Visual Arts Prefect Kaila Bergmann (Year 12) for hosted the opening and announced the Creative Excellence Awards. We also thank our House Captains Betty Geng (Year 11) and Jali BAI (Year 10), Meredith Williams (Year 9) and Cassandra Karabelas (Year 8). Each of these students were excellent ambassadors and displayed outstanding leadership skills throughout the year.

Kaila Bergmann was also awarded a certificate, to acknowledge her selection in the 2022 VCE Season of Excellence, Top Designs Exhibition. Kaila was a Year 11 student in 2021 completing Units 3 and 4 VCD, and her School Assessed Task (SAT) folio was on display at the Melbourne Museum from April to July this year.

We extend our sincere thanks to Estelle Michaelides who was our guest speaker at the exhibition’s official opening. She gave an inspiring speech about the importance of encouraging critical and creative thinking and the value that the Visual Arts disciplines have on students’ career pathways and employment opportunities. Estelle is a designer, stylist, illustrator and ultimately a creator. Her label Micky in the Van is an evocative expression of her inner musings and motivated by the will to create splendour through her storytelling. Her limited-edition seasonal collections combine a mix of dramatic avant-garde with grassroots, subculture street edge.

Gordon Carter, president from the Ringwood Art Society, congratulated the Graeme Hildebrand winner. This award recognises Graeme’s passion and contribution in the arts and education. His bequeath gives financial aid to developing artists through Ringwood Art Society. In conjunction with Ringwood Secondary College and in the name of Graeme Hildebrand, we were very pleased to continue his wishes by awarding a prize to a deserving student at the exhibition opening. The 2022 Graeme Hildebrand Award for an outstanding Year 10 student was awarded to Sarah Johnson. Congratulations to Sarah for demonstrating significant learner qualities including persistence, hard work, resilience and teamwork in the Visual Arts.

A huge thank you goes out to the woodwind music students Meg Anderson and Susannah Maher and to violinist Kaelem Dwightfor performing at the exhibition opening. A special thank you to Performing Arts/Instrumental staff, Rosey Kenna, Dane Sorensen and Corey Lucas-Evans for their contributions and ongoing support.

We greatly appreciate our student volunteers for their time in assisting with various jobs on the opening night: Cynthia Liu (Year 10), Desy Kutasara (Year 10), Mary Hualngo (Year 11), Joey Choong (Year 11) and Victoria Charlton (Year 11).

This exhibition would not have been possible without the incredible support of all the Visual Arts and Technology staff. Everyone worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly before, during and after the exhibition. The RSC staff aim to foster their student’s passion in these subjects, to develop advanced skill levels, and to encourage all students to achieve their own individual style. We are immensely proud of our students and were delighted to showcase their artistic talents. They created a fantastic variety of work, ranging widely in discipline and theme, and all executed to a high standard.

Finally, we would like to express our appreciation to the school community for their attendance and support of the 2022 Visual Arts Exhibition. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
