Year 7 News

High Flyers

The 2019 High Flyer Programme is based on the 18 Qualities of an LNPS Graduate. Students are encouraged and supported to take charge of their own learning and the High Flyer Award is designed for Year Sevens to develop as powerful learners by providing evidence of their attributes, skills and achievements.

The students will collate and present evidence of possessing these 18 Graduate Qualities. Students have received their Term One booklet along with their folder or for those who have chosen to set up a website in which to store their evidence. During the coming weeks, students will be supported as they learn how to document their achievements which may be presented on paper or website format.

Year 7 Jumper

Students have recently finalised the design of the 2019 Year 7 jumper. A note will be sent home shortly with the details regarding sizing, payment and the process for ordering. Not only is the Year 7 jumper a warm item that can be worn on cold days, but also a souvenir of the students' final year of primary school.

Aquatics

This year the Year 7 students will be taking part in the DECD Aquatics Programme at West Lakes and Tennyson Beach. This specialist service is delivered by qualified instructors and meets the following specific objectives:

To assist students to develop a range of knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes regarding:

Water confidence

Water safety in, on and around the water

Survival in the water

Rescue of others

The development of a range of aquatic specific skills

The Aquatic programme replaces the Term 4 swimming lessons and students’ will be assessed as part of their Semester One Physical Education programme.

General Aquatics can include the following activities, dependent on the weather:

sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and snorkelling which are conducted on the lake. A beach awareness programme using either surfboards, wave skis or boogie boards takes place a short walk away at Tennyson Beach. On completion of the aquatic programme, a development record for each child is prepared and will accompany the Semester One report.

Graduate Speeches

Year 7 students are provided with the opportunity to share their primary school experiences, contributions, favourite memories and advice to the school community through their Year 7 Graduate Speech. Students will be given advance notice of the assembly they will be presenting at to provide any family members, who may wish to attend, some prior warning. With adequate notice, we are able to change dates to suit family preferences.

Year 8 Transition

Families have an important decision to make regarding which secondary school they would like their children to attend in 2018. Many local high schools will hold Open Days this term and for those of you yet to make a decision about secondary schooling, we highly recommend you attend some of these. It is important that you inform yourselves of what schools have to offer rather than base decisions on hearsay or reputation.

If your child is applying for a specialist programme, please give staff advance notice of any references or documentation required to support the application.

At a later stage, you will receive a package with information regarding the Transition process and steps you will need to take to enrol your child in High School. In the meantime, keep an eye out for Open Day advertisements in the newsletter and on individual school websites.
