School Council

School Council News

School Council has had seven meetings so far this year. We look forward to our last meeting for the year in December where we will pour over the draft budget for 2022.

We also held two Special Council meetings as part of the Principal Selection process run by the Department of Education. As you know, Principal Paul Frye resigned from his head role at CSC, Simon Wood has been in the Acting Principal position, and is now moving on.

As of 15th October 2021, the role of Principal at CSC was advertised for application. School Council is part of the Principal selection panel and we look forward to sharing the results as soon as possible.

Buildings and Grounds

We have been awarded a shade sail grant from the Victorian government, and the new shade will be going into the central area of the school to protect students from the sun when they are purchasing food from the canteen. The Wellbeing team received a grant for a peace space and that is currently being designed. It will be a calm, reflective, outside area in which students can relax and maybe get some ‘time out’.

Sustainability

CSC is now one of the official places where you can drop off e-waste. Electronic waste refers to any item that has a plug, battery or power cord that’s no longer working. Recycling e-waste is a way to divert it from landfill. Being an e-waste collection site forms part of the sustainability and environment policy at CSC in which we strive to have a small ecological footprint.

E-waste that can be dropped off at CSC must be able to fit into the collection unit, which lives in the foyer of the admin building. Big items that don’t fit in the unit will have to be taken to the Waste Transfer Station at either Castlemaine or Maldon and a fee applies.

You can drop off batteries, chargers, old extension leads and power boards, computer bits and pieces, and of course, mobile phones. School Council will be taking these items to the Transfer station on a regular basis and any parents who would like to assist with this job can email me on bethmellick@gmail.com

Don’t forget that you can also recycle old pens and highlighters at CSC – a collection tub is available in the office.
