Principal's Report

Parents and Carers

I sincerely hope that the easing of restrictions will mean that your families, including our wonderful students, can get back to experiencing some activities that bring you joy. I know that for many families some retail therapy will be at the top of the list of things to do. With sunny weather predicted over the upcoming weekend, I think that gatherings of family and friends will be occurring in parks across Melbourne. Grab your patch of grass early to avoid disappointment.

On that note, just a reminder that Concord School will be closed next Monday, 2nd November, the day before the Melbourne Cup day holiday.

We obviously want to provide our students with a full range of experiences in term 4 however what is permitted, changes in line with government guidelines. School photos are now permitted and, as advertised through Compass last week, they will be held on Monday, 9th November. Our year 6 and year 12 graduations are also able to occur with graduating students and school staff present. Our teams are working on plans to make these events as entertaining and effective of possible. Details will be provided in coming weeks. Other events such as the Christmas Concert are unlikely to proceed but things can change rapidly in six weeks so watch this space!

Class Preparations 2021

Don’t forget to hand in your classroom request forms for 2021. This year we have distributed these forms through Compass. Placing our students into classes for the following year is a significant process. We find that information from parents can greatly assist us to place students in an environment that will best suit their learning needs. If you need a printed copy of the form, please contact your team leader. Working together gives us the greatest opportunity to ensure our students can ‘be the best they can be’. We look forward to your input during this process. Please note that for the information to be considered, forms must be returned by the end of this week.

Upcoming Pupil Free and Public Holidays

This is just a reminder that the 23rd October (next Friday) is a Public Holiday and Monday, 2nd November (day before Cup Day) is a Pupil Free day.

We would also like to acknowledge and celebrate our fantastic team of teachers here at Concord School. Monday, 5th October 2020 was World Teachers' Day, an opportunity to say a big 'thank you' to all the teachers of the world. This Year World Teachers' Day assumes huge significance amid the Covid-19 pandemic. "In this crisis, teachers have shown, as they have done so often, great leadership and innovation in ensuring that 'Learning Never Stops', that no learner is left behind.

Our year 11/12 business group helped coordinate a small gift for our teachers as a token of our overall appreciation and thanks.

Schooling for 2021

It is already that time of year again when we are asking you to confirm for the school what your plans are for 2021. If for any reason you plan to enrol your child in a different school next year then we ask that you inform the school of this proposed movement. We will soon be preparing class lists for 2021 and it is important for us to know how many students will be in sections to ensure suitable class sizes. We really appreciate your cooperation.

Principal Award - Sascha Uhlmann

Sascha has consistently shown the school values on our return to onsite learning. She has adapted quickly to the change in teachers this term, showing maturity and resilience. Sascha continues to stay on top of tasks that need to happen in the classroom, such as checking who needs to water their seedlings. She has been great in assisting students who need help like helping students navigate to websites. She uses very polite and caring tones of voice at all times, when assisting friends, students and teachers.

Keep up the great work Sascha and well done!
