Assistant Principal's Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

Rachael Stone
Rachael Stone

Welcome all to what is, for some of our students, their last week of scheduled teaching in 2022 and, for our incoming Year 7 students visiting next week, soon to be their first day on their Mordialloc College journey.

As the new Assistant Principal overseeing Professional Development, Curriculum and Teaching & Learning at Mordialloc College, please allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself. After leading in south east Melbourne for two years and then as an Acting Principal in north east Melbourne for the last ten months, I am now very excited to have made the move to wonderful bayside; it is a privilege to be joining the Mordialloc College community. With science teaching and Assistant Principal experience in P-12 and secondary schools in South America and the UK, my family and I moved to Melbourne for ‘something different’; these past three years have certainly delivered on that!

Without a doubt, outstanding teaching and learning creates lifelong learners with the confidence to be curious and to persevere. Every day I am lucky enough to share my own learning journey with students and colleagues, and I look forward to building on this as I start my own journey here with you all.

As we come to the end of our scheduled classes for 2022, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their efforts in what has been a successful year of getting back to business.

Headstart started on Monday 21 November, and it has been great watching the students move up into their 2023 year levels so successfully. Alongside this, staff have been actively engaging in their own continuing Professional Learning via our Professional Learning Communities and Staff Workshop sessions; even in these last few weeks of 2022, we are working hard to make sure that we meet our students at their personal points of need.

Wednesday 7 December is our Mordialloc College Awards Night and I would like to say a heartfelt ‘well done’ on behalf of all staff to all our students who have achieved their personal best in their studies, sports, music, the arts and other areas throughout 2022; I look forward to working with you all next year. And so from me, as the summer break grows even closer, I wish you all a fabulous festive season and holiday. Have fun with your loved ones, complete your holiday homework but most importantly, stay happy and healthy!

Celebrating Student Success

House Points Rewards Trip

On 1 December, the top ten students (House Points) from each year group were rewarded with a day out to Luna Park. As you can see from the photographs below, a great day was had by all, with staff remarking how well-behaved and engaged the students were with their theme park experience. A big thank you to the students for being wonderful ambassadors for Mordialloc College, and a big thanks to Mr Cummins, Ms Freitag and Ms Cowain-Menzies for organising and supporting this excursion.
