Time for a well-deserved break

Tomorrow marks the end of Term 3 and another milestone in our COVID world.

Despite the challenges communities around the world have faced, I encourage everyone to use the next two weeks as an opportunity to both collectively acknowledge our community and take a well-deserved break.

Tomorrow, via Compass, I will circulate an end of term video message acknowledging our community and the term’s endeavours. Please view it as a family.

Staged return to on-site schooling in Victoria and DET’s priorities

Over the last fortnight we have come to terms with the staged approach to returning to a lockdown-free world. For student learning, this includes:

The continuation of Remote Learning for students in Week One of Term 4, with the exception of children of permitted workers or those deemed vulnerable (please see below for onsite attendance form)
The return of all Prep, Year One and Year Two students to onsite learning in Week Two of Term Four, Monday 12th October.
The return of all Year 3 – 6 students to onsite learning at a date yet to be announced.

Further, this week the Department have shared their three core priorities for Term 4:

1. Mental health and wellbeing

Our highest priority will be the wellbeing, particularly the mental health, of every student and member of staff. This means effectively mobilising all available resources to support our most vulnerable students and enabling staff to access the relevant support services.

2. Learning

Some of our students have thrived in the remote and flexible learning environment, others have maintained their learning progress, and some have fallen behind, despite their best efforts and those of their families and teachers. Our priority will be supporting both those who need it to catch up and those who have progressed to continue to extend their learning.

3. Transitions

We will make every effort to ensure successful transitions for children moving from kindergarten into Prep, the Grade 6s moving into Year 7, and the Year 12s moving into employment or further education and training.

Croydon Hills Primary School is committed to implementing these priorities and will commit resources and make necessary adjustments to programs to ensure they are supported.

Student Reporting in Semester 2

Student Reporting in Semester 2 this year will reflect adjustments that schools have made to their local curriculum programs in response to the needs and aspirations of their school communities, and the disruption caused by coronavirus (COVID-19).

Student reporting in Semester 2, 2020 will focus on what progress has been made and what has been achieved by each child. Teachers will be encouraged to keep reports simple but make them meaningful.

Consistent with DET guidelines:

in English and Mathematics, reports will:
- include a short description of what was taught; and
- report on achievement and progress against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards; and
- include an age-related five-point scale
in all other curriculum areas, reports will
- include a short description of what was taught; and
- a short comment on progress and achievement in their learning across the semester
reports will also include a comment on student participation and engagement in the learning program offered in Semester 2, 2020 with reference to the Personal and Social Capability in the curriculum.

A reminder,

The Victorian Government has stated that all students who can learn from home must learn from home.

On-site supervision will be available for students in the following categories, based on revised criteria: children whose parents are permitted workers and for whom no other arrangements can be made

to vulnerable children including:
- children in out-of-home care
- children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm
- children identified by the school (Carol Wyatt, Assistant Principal – Wellbeing) as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other health service).
- children with a disability where the family is experiencing severe stress.

By submitting this form, you declare that your child is well and you will collect your child as soon as is practicable upon the request of the school if your child becomes unwell.
