CAREERS IN ENGINEERING

Born to Engineer

"Being an engineer doesn’t just encompass one job. In fact, engineering is a large family of careers. Whilst all engineering careers share a number of core general skills, they quickly branch out into different specialisms that require very different skillsets."

You can choose from a variety of areas including:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electric and Electronic Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Other engineering specialisations
    • Geological Engineering
    • Marine Engineering
    • Nuclear Engineering
    • Petroleum Engineering
    • Engineering Management

To find out what some of these roles entail you can visit the borntoengineer website. This is a UK site but full of helpful information. Also check out the GIST website for excellent videos and resources for women in STEM.

FEATURED REPORT

Australia's 20 most-needed jobs

"The job market has been through big upheavals in 2020 – and that’s impacted which industries have the most demand for new workers. Huge pressure on the healthcare system and a growth in parcel delivery during COVID-19 are two key factors shaping the most-needed roles in Australia right now.

Here’s a snapshot of the top 20 most-needed roles, plus what employers in these industries will be looking for in applications."

TORRENS UNIVERSITY - NO ATAR REQUIRED!

Torrens University are no longer considering the ATAR

"In light of the disruptions caused by COVID-19, we have decided to change our key admissions criteria for students planning to study at Torrens University Australia. Torrens University is removing the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) as the key admissions criteria for applicants aiming to study at Torrens University.  The institution will no longer consider the ATAR as its primary entry requirement."

WHERE ELSE TO FIND SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships applications through VTAC  close Friday 9 October (5pm)

Scholarships available through institutions.

You should spend some time exploring all these opportunities and apply for any scholarships you think you might be eligible for as applications open.

SPECIAL ENTRY ACCESS SCHEMES (SEAS)

SEAS applications close this Friday 9 October (5pm)

Plan your time! Depending on the category, a SEAS application can take several weeks to complete. This is because some categories require supporting evidence, such as financial evidence or a statement of support from someone who can verify your circumstances. You may be required to get evidence from a health practitioner. This evidence can take a while to collect. The application may also require you to provide your own description of circumstances and impact statement, which we recommend you make time to draft before submitting.
