VICSEG Scholars 2017

VICSEG Scholars 2017

It is the fourth year for the VICSEG Multicultural Student Engagement and Scholarship Program.  This year, Sakir Nawaz returns as the college's Vice Cultural Captain. He is joined by newcomers Henry Lal Din Mawi, Alani Apineru, Makuei Aluong, Natalina Mariak, and Roda Thangaw.

VICSEG worker Peter Makuwei is supported by Vic Uni Psychology students Oula Elsoukmani, Nicki Psiountakis, and Jeevanjyot Nagra.

As part of the VICSEG Multicultural Student Engagement & Scholarship Project this year, our students have decided to hold a cook-off on Monday, the 7th of August.

Roda Thangaw and Alani Apineru cooked Samoan Sapasui using light soy sauce and vermicelli noodles specifically found in Samoan shops.  Natalina Mariak and Makuei Aluong took us to Mexico to try their one pot Chicken Salsa Rice.  Sakir Nawaz brought spices from home, and he and Henry Lal Din Mawi prepared Sri Lankan Samosas two ways – vegetarian and tuna.  We were joined on the day by VICSEG worker Peter Makuei, and their mentors Jeevan and Selena.

We would also like to thank Michelle Hellyer, Judith Meikle, and Ester Dunn for the continued support in their kitchens.  If you would like to have a go at cooking these authentic traditional dishes, check out the recipes at:
