October Sporting News

Greater Western Victoria Region Track and Field Championships

On Friday 9th October we had 14 students from Gray Street participate in the GWV Region Track and Field Championships, held at Llanberris Athletics Reserve in Ballarat.  Students qualified for this higher level of competition through strong results at a school, District and then Division level, with our students performing strongly once again with outstanding results achieved on the day, as shown below:

Georgia, Fraser and Oscar, through the first placing they achieved in their respective events, all then qualified for the State Track and Field Championships – an absolutely sensational achievement.

State Primary Track and Field Championships

The State Track and Field Championships were held yesterday at Lakeside Athletics Stadium in Albert Park, Melbourne.  As highlighted above, Georgia, Fraser and Oscar all qualified for this highest level of competition in Victoria.  Georgia however was unable to participate with a clash of commitments meaning she was unable to attend.  Fraser and Oscar both had an amazing experience, coming up against very strong competition.  Neither student made it to the finals for their event, however both should hold their heads high, doing amazingly well just to event qualify for this competition.

Year 5/6 Cricket Blast Cup

The final event on the 2026 sporting calendar took place today with 40 students from Years 5 and 6 representing our school in the Hamilton ‘Cricket Blast Cup’ that was played up at Pedrina Park.  At the time of publishing this newsletter the final results of the day were not known and these will be included in our November Newsletter Sports Report.

School Netball

This season (Term 4) we have four Gray Street teams playing in the Hamilton Netball Association junior competition, being played each Saturday at Pedrina Park.  Thank you to the coaches, team managers and umpires for giving their time to support the development of our players.  The season has got off to a terrific start for all teams, with results as follows:

Team Age Group Round 1 Round 2
Gray St Blue Year 3/4 Won 17-2 Won 15-2
Gray St White Year 3/4 Lost 30-1 Lost 24-2
Gray St Maroon Year 5/6 Won 37-3 Won 23-7
Gray St Sky Blue Year 5/6 Won 17-10 Won 53-1

Whilst we know that winning is fun, the focus for our teams is to play as well as we can, contribute to our team and have fun, and this is certainly what all students are doing.  There are NO games this weekend leading into the Melbourne Cup public holiday, with round 3 of matches scheduled for Saturday 7th November.
