Mrs Guy - Prep Guy

For the rest of this term in Numeracy, students will be involved in revising all curriculum areas with hands on activities, worded problems and games. We can then work on each childs' strengths with extension tasks or assist with re-teaching students who are finding a particular area of the curriculum difficult. For the last few weeks we have been working on numbers to at least 20 and then beyond, making these numbers with place value charts and counters. We have revised ordinal numbers such as 1st, 2nd and 3rd and practised our friends of 10. Ask you child to show you these friends.

In Literacy we have been revising all curriculum areas, with a particular focus this week on recount writing with sentences that include uppercase letters to begin, spaces between words, ending puntuation and re-reading to ensure our sentences make sense. We continuously revise our heart words, reading automatically and spelling these words too. We have been learning about the sound made by the digraph 'ay' such as day, hay and May. Ask your child if they can think of some more 'ay' words and see if they can spell those words. We have been working on correctly forming our letters. We have been practising reading like we speak; fluently and expressively and discussing the difference between fiction and non fiction texts. We have been working on answering comprehension questions about what we are reading showing our understanding of what we our reading.

Please encouage your child to read their take home readers every night and practise reading plus spelling their heart words. This makes a tremendous difference to your child's confidence when reading and encourages reading fluently and expressively.

Ms Stoll - Prep/ One

Our Learning 🍎

🔤 In English, students have been reviewing their digraph sounds, such as ai, ay, ee, ea, y, ish, ie and oa. These important sounds are being reinforced through reading, writing, and spelling activities. Students have also been diving deeper into narrative elements and personal recounts. This has been a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their phonics knowledge in context while developing their writing skills.

🔢 In Mathematics, students have been consolidating their understanding of place value, a foundational concept that helps build number sense. We are particularly focusing part part whole relationships, skip counting by 10, matching numbers and number names, finding the smallest and largest groups, ordering numbers according to their value and subitising. These skills are being practised through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks that support the development of mental computation and flexible thinking.

🍃 In Auslan, students have been revising their emotions knowledge and practicing how we can sign using our hands and facial expressions, how we feel throughout the day. We have also been practising commands and concepts such as sit, stand, toilet, quiet, wash hands, play, and line up. These signs are used daily in the classroom to support routine and inclusion, and students are developing confidence in using Auslan to communicate and follow instructions in a respectful and engaging way.

Reading Nights 📖

Congratulations to Jackson, William and Lexi who are our current Reading Night leaders, each achieving their 250 Reading Night certificates.

We celebrate reading milestones in our classroom with a special board - each time a student progresses to a new Reading Night goal, we colour a box.

Keep up the reading, students and families! Regular and consistent reading makes a powerful impact on your child’s learning across all areas of the curriculum, as well as supporting their confidence and wellbeing.

Leo's Journey 🐆

It was Esme's turn to turn to take Leo home last week and it was Bilie's turn this week! We have two more friends who haven't had their turn with Leo yet, rest assured this will occur over the next few weeks. We love seeing the fun adventures Leo shares with his friends each week. We love seeing and hearing about one another's turn with Leo!

A reminder to students and families: each Monday, we randomly draw a name from our ‘Leo Tub’ to decide who will take Leo home. As a class, we agreed this was the fairest way to ensure everyone gets a turn.

Student Achievers 🌟

Our Student Achiever last week was Lochie and this week is Lexi! Congratulations of being our Student Achievers Lochie and Lexi! I am so proud of all of your efforts, both in and out of the classroom. Keep making good choices, helping others, being a kind friend, focusing on your learning and following our school values of being a Respectful Wren, Responsible Ringtail and Resilient Red Kangaroo!

Mrs Murphy - One/ Two

Shhssssh..... 🤫

We have been very busy in Grade 1/2 getting ready for Grandparents' Day next Friday 31st of October. The students have been busy making gifts for their Grandparents 🥰. If our Grandparents cannot make it, the students will be bringing a gift home for you.

Also just a reminder that Next Friday is also HALLOWEEN 🦹‍♀️🧙‍♂️🧛‍♀️🎃🎃, students are allowed to come dressed up.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been working on our Narratives. This week, we looked at the story "The Big Hungry Bear". We worked out who our main characters were, where the setting took place, what the problem was in our story, and how it was solved. This helps the students with their own writing, and allows them to think if they have all these parts in their writing.

Numeracy

We have started looking at the time. Did you know that time is not just about clocks and what the time is!! It is also about the days of the week, the months in the year, and how to use a calendar. What are our different seasons? There are so many different aspects that we are learning about time.

Student Achiever

Our student achiever this week is Bel. Well Done, Bel, on being a great role model for our class. 🥰
