STEM Years 1-4

During Term 2, Year 1–2 students have been exploring Earth and Space Science through the exciting context of the Artemis II space mission. Students have begun their space journey by investigating the planets in our solar system, learning that the Sun is at the centre of our solar system and provides the light that creates shadows on Earth.

During Reconciliation Week, students explored constellations and learned how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have used the stars for storytelling, navigation and survival for over 60,000 years. Students created their own constellations and developed an understanding of how people use patterns in the night sky to share knowledge and understand the world around them.

Year 3–4 students have also been exploring Earth and Space Science through the context of the Artemis II mission, learning how space exploration helps scientists better understand Earth and the systems that support life. Students investigated the Earth’s water cycle and explored how water moves through the environment through processes such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Applying their STEM and engineering skills, students designed and created their own water-saving, water filtration or water collection devices, encouraging them to think creatively about sustainable ways to protect and manage Earth’s water resources.
