Year 4

Cranbourne Gardens Excursion - Monday 25th May
Our Year 4 students recently enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the Cranbourne Gardens, where they participated in the Shared Country education program. This engaging experience provided students with the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and respect for First Peoples culture and their connection to Country, linking to our Integrated topic of the early colonisation of Australia.
Throughout the day, students learned about the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung People and explored the important relationship between people and the environment. They discovered how native plants have traditionally been used for food, medicine, fibre and tools, gaining valuable insights into the knowledge and practices that have been passed down through generations.
Students had the chance to examine First Peoples tools, create artwork using ochre paint, stamp handprints, and draw significant cultural symbols. They also enjoyed tasting native bushfood tea, which gave them a hands-on connection to the natural resources found in the Australian landscape.
The excursion encouraged students to build their cross-cultural understanding while learning about both past and present First Peoples culture. It was a meaningful and memorable experience that supported our learning about Australia's rich cultural heritage and the importance of caring for Country.
We are proud of the way our Year 4 students represented our school, demonstrating curiosity, respect and enthusiasm throughout the day. A big shoutout to our helpers that assisted us on the day! Your help is so appreciated.
