A Message from Parents & Friends

Hello everyone,
And we’re back for another term! And the last term of the year. We’re excited for this term as we head into the festive season and get to see how much fundraising we did throughout the year.
We’re delighted to give you an update on where we’re currently at. You have all helped raise $52103.05!!!! This is beyond amazing - we’re one lucky school!
Here is an update for October on all these events & fundraising!
Father’s/ Special Person’s Day - Friday 4th September
We’re delighted to let you know that we raised $4,544.56 during our Father’s/ Special Person’s Day stall, event and raffle. That’s phenomenal!!! Thank you to everyone for making that happen.
Grandparents Day
We’re looking forward to welcoming all Grandparents/ Special People to our school on Friday 23rd October.
The main school gate will open from 1.15pm. There will be tables and chairs to share but you may bring your own chairs if you wish. Please BYO lunch. We will be selling biscuits and cakes from $1 outside of the library and there will also be icy poles for sale from the canteen.
Classrooms will be open from 2.15pm to enjoy an array of activities with our guests.
Family Movie Night
***please note change of date***
We’re delighted to let you know that the movie has been selected - this is going to be the recent Minecraft movie. This movie night is a whole family event. We encourage children to bring blankets and beanbags/ cushions to sit on and adults to bring low chairs. Please note that we will be outside and will be creating a kids zone at the front of Gumbuya with adults to sit at the back in chairs (you are welcome to sit as a family, but we wanted the kids to get a good view and adults to be comfortable).
Gates open at 5pm and we will have a Twistie potato stick van and Mr Fresh ice cream truck available from 5pm until the movie ends. Parents & Friends will also be selling lolly bags, popcorn and water to enjoy during the movie.
The movie commences at 6 sharp.
Please note that there is no charge for this event, however we will have buckets available should you wish to make a gold coin donation.
Adult only Quiz Night
Our adult only quiz night is happening on Friday 20th November. Our theme this year is spring carnival - what are the chances it will rain?! Regardless of the weather, the show will go on!
Tickets will be available to purchase next week - please await details via Compass.
Election BBQ and Bake sale
On Saturday 28th November, our state goes to vote. We are already running a BBQ on the day to help feed hungry voters at our school. With consultation of parents and those who attended the P&F meeting last week, we have decided to run a bake sale to the community of Altona Meadows when they come to vote.
We have some wonderful people giving up their Saturday to do this. If you would like to bake, we will have plates and packs available to collect from the office after the cup weekend.
Further details will be sent out on Compass.
Parents & Friends survey
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the P&F survey - your feedback is much appreciated. It’s really important for us as a committee to seek feedback and find out what our community wants. Highlights include:
60% of responders want to fundraise to support our school and their child’s education, whilst 30% like them because they bring our school community together
10% of responders don’t enjoy the frequency of our events, whilst others don’t think that we communicate enough and for some, the cost of our events is something that affects participation
77% think that we hold just the right amount of events
53% of responders enjoy our big events like fetes and colour runs, with 13% liking all our events
83% feel their child directly benefits from fundraising
Everyone said they preferred more than one type of fundraising over the other - essentially we have a great mix
32% of people struggle to volunteer due to work commitments, whilst 2.5% don’t feel like they are supported enough to run events and 2.5.% would be willing to volunteer if we ran meetings outside of school hours
We did receive feedback about some things that ick you, but on the whole everyone loves the fact we do what we do.
It’s important that everyone’s feedback is acknowledged and also to note that on the whole, the community is grateful for all the work that we do behind the scenes as well as front facing.
All feedback will be considered as we finalise a plan for fundraising next year!
As a committee, we will also discuss the feedback at our next meeting on Friday 6th November.
Volunteering
There is plenty of opportunity to volunteer over the coming weeks if you would like to. BBQ’s, fun days, Grandparents day to name a few! You can sign up here and you never know, you might just meet your new best friend when you do!
