A Message from David & Cam

It’s been another busy couple of weeks at AGPS, with plenty to celebrate across our classrooms and wider school community. There’s also lots to look forward to in the weeks ahead, with plenty of opportunities for our students and families to get involved. As always, thank you for the ongoing support you show our students and staff. It makes a real difference and is a big part of what makes AGPS such a great community to be part of.

Memorial Garden

Last week, we were joined by Katey’s parents and brother to complete a special memorial garden in her honour. Students from 1K helped plant a beautiful selection of South African-inspired plants, creating a meaningful space that will be enjoyed by our school community for years to come.

It was a lovely opportunity for Katey’s family and class to come together and create something lasting in her memory. We want the garden to be a special place where students and staff can remember Katey and reflect on the impact she had on our community.

As a school, we will continue to care for the garden and encourage our students to do the same. We want everyone to understand the importance of respecting this special space, looking after the plants and helping to keep the garden beautiful. In doing so, we can ensure it remains a fitting tribute to Katey and a lasting part of our school community.

We are incredibly grateful to Katey’s family for joining us and sharing this special moment with the students. We hope the garden brings them comfort and serves as a lasting reminder of the connection Katey has with our school community.

Transition Program and Step Up Days

Positive transitions play such an important role in helping our students feel confident and prepared for their next stage of learning. We’re really proud of the strong and supportive transition program we provide for all students from our 2027 Preps getting ready to start school, right through to our Year 6 students preparing for secondary school.

Our transition program for current students includes:

  • 19th November – Step Up Day 1

  • 26th November – Step Up Day 2

  • 8th December – Final Step Up Day: during this session, students will spend time in their 2027 classroom with their 2027 teacher and classmates. Families will also be notified of their child’s class placement on this day.

  • 8th December – Statewide Transition Day: all Year 6 students attending government secondary schools will take part in their 6–7 transition session.

We’re also very excited to welcome our 2027 Prep students soon! Their transition program runs over several weeks and is designed to help our newest learners feel comfortable, confident and ready to begin their journey at Altona Green next year.

2027 Classes and Parent/Carer Requests

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we are currently working through 2027 planning, class structures and recruitment processes, and the process for 2027 class formations will soon commence. If you believe you have any additional information that you feel is necessary to support us in creating class lists for 2027, please put your requests in writing via this form no later than Friday 6th November. For new families to AGPS, please note that making requests is totally optional.

Foodbank Drive

A huge thank you to our AGPS community for your generous support of our recent Foodbank drive! It was fantastic to see everyone get behind this initiative and contribute to supporting local families in need.

A special congratulations to the students who came up with the idea, planned and ran the drive. It takes initiative, teamwork and a genuine desire to help others to turn an idea into action, and we are incredibly proud of the way they have lived our KEFAR values.

A special shout-out to Minha and Tilly, who helped deliver the food donations to Foodbank. Check out this video from the Foodbank Facebook page:

Thank you again to everyone who donated and helped make this such a success. What a great community we have!

Student Achievement

Regional Gymnastics - Stasa

Congratulations to Stasa who recently achieved first place on bars at a Regional Gymnastics Competition!

This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful reflection of Stasa’s hard work, dedication and commitment to her sport. We are incredibly proud of her success and love seeing our students pursuing their passions and achieving their goals outside of school.

Well done, Stasa!

Are you leaving AGPS in 2027?

There is a great demand for places at our school and we are required to carefully manage all enrolments to ensure there are enough places for all students who reside within our school zone. To assist us with this, please inform us as soon as possible if you have a prep child starting in 2027 or know of any other students who may be joining us in 2027. Similarly, if your child will no longer be attending AGPS in 2027 please let us know. All this information helps us greatly with planning.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Take care,

David and Cam
