Year 8 Agriculture

Over the last few weeks, 8 Tech Agriculture have been working through each stage of processing wool from our Poll Dorset sheep.

First, they had to skirt and pick the fleece, before washing and carding the fibres. They then made their own natural dyes using things such as red cabbage, beetroot, onion skins, and coffee - it was especially interesting to experiment with changing the pH of the red cabbage solution to change the colour!

Students then wet felted the coloured wool, successfully turning their raw fleece into fabric!

Year 7 Science

In the last week, 7 Science have used jelly and lollies to create models of cells. Students drew a diagram of their models and created a key to explain what each part represented.

Shakespeare

Year 10 English students at the beginning of the term completed their Shakespeare unit, All the World’s a Stage, with a focus on the tragedy Macbeth. Throughout the unit, students explored the play’s plot, characters, themes and Shakespeare’s use of language.

For their assessment, students completed a project-based Collection of Work, selecting two different activities to demonstrate their understanding of the play. Students were able to showcase their learning in a variety of creative ways, including designing costumes, creating games and artwork, writing alternative endings or character diaries, developing soundtracks, and producing performances or talk shows. This gave students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of Macbeth while using their individual strengths, creativity and communication skills.
