Dear Families

This week, we celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students who continue to pursue excellence with courage, confidence and purpose. A special congratulations to Grace Nicol (Year 12) on her success in the Speak for Faith competition, a wonderful recognition of her ability to articulate her faith with insight and conviction. We also welcome home our Magis World Scholars, who return from Bangkok today after a successful week of competition against students from across the globe. These achievements reflect the talent, commitment and pursuit of excellence that are characteristic of our students and the opportunities they embrace both within and beyond the College. 

Congratulations to Years 9 and 10 students who represented the College at Wednesday’s NAS Winter Carnival. We wish all teams who have progressed to netball finals every success over the coming weeks. Wishing all fathers, grandfathers and father figures a special day on Sunday. 

Year 12 Ice Plunge 

This term, as people for others, our Year 12 students are taking part in an Ice Plunge Fundraiser in support of Jesuit Mission. Through the Jesuit Mission’s work in Hazaribag, India, children are supported in accessing education and growing with dignity and hope. Our Year 12s invite our community to stand with them in this shared commitment to hopefully raise $15,000. Your support reminds us that together we can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible and can be made via the Jesuit Mission website Jesuit Mission - John XXIII Year 12.  

2027 Student Diaries 

As a tool to support students’ organisation and time management with their learning program, in 2027 the student diary will be provided to all Years 7, 8 and 9 students and will be offered to students in Years 10 to 12 who wish to continue using a hard copy organiser. Please complete the link below to order a College-provided diary for your child who will be in Years 10 to 12 in 2027.

WA Student Assistance Payment 

The WA Student Assistance Payment helps parents and carers with cost-of-living pressures associated with sending their children to school. 

All Western Australian school students with an active enrolment at a public school, non-government school or registered for home education are eligible for the WA Student Assistance Payment. 

You can claim $250 for each secondary student and $150 for students attending primary school or Kindergarten. 

The fastest and most convenient way to claim is through the ServiceWA app. More information on how to claim through the ServiceWA app is available at WA.gov.au/WASAP2026 

All claims must be received by Friday, 25 September 2026. More information can be found at WA Student Assistance Payment.  

Parent Sundowner  

The Parents’ Association is hosting a Parent Sundowner, and all parents are warmly invited to catch up with old friends and connect with other families in our community with a relaxed, picnic-style evening on the College lawn with live entertainment.

Thinking ahead to 2027?

As we begin planning for the year ahead, we understand that family circumstances can change, and sometimes this means a move to a new school.

If you believe your child may not be returning to John XXIII College in 2027, we would appreciate hearing from you as early as possible. This helps us to ensure a smooth transition for your family and allows us to offer places to other students on our waiting list.

In line with our College’s Withdrawal Policy, we kindly ask for written notice to the College Registrar at least one term (ten school weeks) before the anticipated departure date.

Where notice is not received, the policy provides for one term’s fees in lieu of notice.

Community Garden Care and Maintenance Day

When: Saturday 5 September   

Time: 8:00am - 9:30am   

Meeting Point: Meeting behind the Science Garden at B8

We invite all interested parents, students, and alumni from the John XXIII College community to join us for a Community Garden Care and Maintenance Day to help our native Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos thrive.

This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our environment through planting, weeding and caring for our existing garden beds. All tools will be provided—just bring yourself, along with comfortable clothing, closed footwear, a hat and sunscreen.

Participating students can count this time towards their Christian Service-Learning (Roncalli Service) hours.

Presentation and Q&A with Kate Chaney MP

On Monday, Years 10, 11 and 12 students and College staff had the opportunity to hear from College alumni and current parent, Kate Chaney MP, the Federal Member for Curtin, during a special presentation and Question and Answer session.

Ms Chaney provided valuable insights into her role as an Independent Member of the Australian Federal Parliament, explaining how she represents the interests and concerns of her constituents across the electorate of Curtin. Students gained an understanding of the responsibilities of federal parliamentarians, the importance of community representation, and the unique role Independents play in Australia's democratic system.

A highlight of the visit was the engaging Question and Answer session, during which students asked a wide range of thoughtful questions on topics including political decision-making, current issues facing young Australians, and the rise of extreme politics. Ms Chaney's willingness to share her experiences and perspectives provided students with a meaningful and authentic insight into Australian politics and civic participation.

We thank Ms Chaney for taking the time to visit the College and inspire our students and staff to become informed and active citizens. I would also like to thank Ms Daisy Farley and Mr Stephen Harris for their assistance in organising the event.

Year 12 students: Connect, Network, Inspire

We’re delighted to invite you to our next Alumni Connect networking event. Hosted by Brian Neo (Class 1997), Founder and Managing Director of Sterling Property, this event is open to all Year 12 students, regardless of the pathway you plan to pursue after graduation.

Despite the event’s location, the focus isn’t on pursuing a career in commercial property. It’s about learning the value of professional networking, hearing the unique career journeys of our alumni, and discovering how the John XXIII College alumni community can support you as you transition beyond school. Whether you’re considering university, TAFE, an apprenticeship, a gap year or entering the workforce, you’ll have the opportunity to meet alumni from a wide range of professions, ask questions, gain advice, and begin building connections that may benefit you for years to come.

John XXIII College Sustainability Award: Applications now open

Are you a Year 12 student planning to study environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental law, architecture, urban design, town planning, or public health and urban design at university next year? The John XXIII College Sustainability Award could be for you.

Established by Dr Margaret Yoon in 2012 and supported by the John XXIII College Foundation, this award recognises students committed to improving the world through their tertiary studies. It's both a mark of recognition and a practical head start: the recipient receives $500, paid once they've provided proof of admission to their tertiary course.

ACC Athletics 

The 2026 ACC A-Division Athletics team has been announced. A copy of the full team can be found in the College notices. All team members are now eligible to purchase an Interschool Jumper from the College Uniform Shop. 

Important dates: 

• Attend training in the lead up to the carnival (remaining schedule attached)
• Compulsory team training sessions attendance will be taken, please email if there is a valid reason students cannot attend. 
• Tuesday, 8 September at  WA Athletics Stadium 6:30am - 7:40am
• Monday 14 September 
  • Final team session JTC Ovals: 7:00am-7:45am
  • Team Breakfast to follow: 7:45am-8:50am

  • Monday 14 September: All relay team members, including reserves will be exempt from class periods 5 and 6 to master the all-important changeovers on the College Ovals.

Years 9/10 Winter NAS

As the final NAS carnival of the year for our Year 9 and 10 students, the day was a fantastic celebration of participation, teamwork, and College spirit. Students proudly represented the College across a variety of sporting competitions, while those remaining on campus enjoyed a dedicated Wellbeing Day designed to promote connection and balance. The day provided something for everyone and was enjoyed by students and staff alike. A sincere thank you to all staff and coaches whose support and organisation helped make the day such a success.

Year 12 Towel Nominations

If you feel you are eligible for a specific towel or a number of towels, please complete the form below by next Wednesday, 9 September.  It is your responsibility to complete the form and nominate; if you do not nominate, you will not receive a towel. These towels will be presented at the Day of Invitation Assembly. 

Towel eligibility:

• Represented John XXIII College in the category for your six years at the College Years 7-12 
  • NAS Sport

  • ACC Athletics
• Must have competed/attended the NAS Carnival/ACC Carnival, reserves included!!! 
  • If you made a team but decided not to attend, you will not be eligible for a towel
• If, for some reason, you had a legitimate reason for not being able to make the team (eg. injury, transferred to JTC from another school), please include this clearly in your nomination. 

We have all teams recorded on file for your time at the College, so we will cross-check once all nominations are in.

Year 7 Summer NAS

Please find the link below for the Summer NAS Nominations. All students must complete the form by next Wednesday 16 September. You can only complete the form once. Please take your time when completing.

Pay attention to all training dates and times, as it may not be the same each week. If you cannot make a training session, you must let your team teacher know.

At the Week 4 training, there will be a sausage sizzle for all teams.

Years 7/8 NAS Football

Each year the NAS Football team is a combined team of Years 7 and 8 students. Year 8 girls who would like to trial for the team, please complete the following nomination form. The first trial will be on Thursday, 23 September, 3:30 to 4:30pm, and the second on Wednesday, 14 October. 

NAS AFLW - Year 7/8 Team  – Fill out form

Years 9/10 

Years 9 and 10 students interested in a Years 7 to 8 NAS coaching opportunity in Term 4 - this is for you!

You will be required to attend NAS trials and training sessions (training schedule TBA) to be eligible to attend the carnival day. A minimum of three sessions must be attended for this.

Congratulations

Congratulations to George Galvin (Year 11), who competed at the 2026 State Short Course Age Swimming Championships, held at HPC, over the weekend. George brought home a fantastic haul of medals: Gold in the 100m Breaststroke, Gold in the 50m Breaststroke, and Silver in the 100m IM, narrowly touched out for Gold by just 0.2 seconds. A brilliant result, well done!

Congratulations to Grace Czajko, who also competed at the Short Course Championships, swimming personal best times to win Gold in 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke; 4th in the open age category; and places in the 4x50m Medley Relay and 4x100 Medley Open Relay. Amazing results, Grace!

Congratulations to Niko Cha (Year 6), who represented Western Australia at the 2026 Bruce Cup 12s Tennis Competition, held in Brisbane last week. Niko played a great tournament as the WA team claimed the Silver medal. Congratulations also to John XXIII College staff member Josh Bowen, who coached the team throughout the competition.

Congratulations to Conor Bradley on being selected for the 2026 ACC All-Star basketball team — a great individual honour and a reflection of a strong season on the court. Well done, Conor!
