Student Learning Term

Year 1 in Term 3

We have well and truly settled back into the swing of things and have had a fantastic start to the term. It has been wonderful to see our students so engaged, eager to learn and ready to take on new challenges. We have been very busy learning, exploring and growing together!

In Reading, we have just completed our first rich literature cycle. Throughout this unit, students have been developing a love of reading while learning to make connections, inferring meaning, identify text features and building their reading fluency.

In Writing, students have been planning, writing, editing and publishing their own narratives. It has been fantastic to watch their confidence and creativity grow as they bring their stories to life.

Our Phonics lessons continue to be an important part of our literacy block. It has been amazing to see the growth students are making, as well as the collaborative learning taking place as they support one another and celebrate their successes.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring a range of concepts including addition and subtraction strategies, fractions, data and place value. Students have been developing their mathematical thinking through hands-on activities, problem-solving and real-world learning experiences.

We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students have shown so far. There is still so much exciting learning ahead this term, and we can't wait to continue watching every student learn, grow and achieve their personal best!

Year 2 is Blasting into Term 3!

Year 2 has launched into Term 3 with plenty of enthusiasm, curiosity and fantastic learning!

Reading: We have been using rich texts to develop a range of reading strategies, helping students become confident and thoughtful readers.

Writing: Our imaginations have blasted into space as students create narratives filled with aliens and curious creatures! We also enjoyed an Author Workshop with Nicky Kelly, who shared how authors use the five senses to bring story settings to life.

"I enjoyed learning to write about describing a setting using our senses in a workshop with Ms Kelly, I practised smell, sight and what could I hear." Liam 2B

Numeracy: We have been strengthening our number knowledge through place value and the four operations. Michael Minas’ Love Maths games, including 0 or Bust, Addition War and What Difference Does It Make?, have been a big hit!

“I have enjoyed playing games in Numeracy this term. My favourite game is “Greater Than” because I like trying to make bigger numbers so I win!” Aubrey 2A

Integrated Studies: Our Space unit has us exploring planets, constellations and the wonders of our solar system.

"We were looking at the shadows of the moon.  It was dark in the room because we had to be able to see the shadow.  It kinda worked but we found out that someone had to hold the orange with a stick, they had to have no hair, and the light had to be up high." Lilian 2C

4 R’s: We have been identifying and celebrating our character strengths and the unique qualities we each bring to Year 2.

“This week we were learning about different qualities. My quality is hard working, so I drew myself focusing on my work.” John 2C

It’s been an action-packed start to Term 3, with plenty more adventures to come!
