Tag Rugby

On Friday the 24th of November, the year 5/6 boys and girls SAPSASA Tag Rugby teams played at The Festival of Tag Rugby Carnival. We played at West Beach and our teams competed against many other schools. Both teams played 8 games on Friday with the girls winning 6 matches, losing 1 and drawing 1 and the boys won 6 matches and lost 2. It was a great day and we all had lots of fun and by the end of the day, we were all very tired from a hard day's work.

Over the last couple of terms, we have been learning how to play Tag Rugby. Learning skills like wrapping and rucking the ball, understanding the rules and on the day of the carnival you could see all the work we have done together as a team and our understanding of the game.

This all would definitely not have been possible without Brayden's excellent coaching. Finally, we would like to thank Brayden for coaching both teams, the NRL team for organising these events, Mrs Robinson and all the parent volunteers for making this day possible

Cricket

On Wednesday of week 8, the girls' cricket team played in the SAPSASA grand final against Stella Maris Parish School, the same team we played in the grand final last year. We lost the toss and they decided to bat, which meant we had to bowl first. We got them all out for 64, which we thought was definitely an achievable chase. Well done to Olivia who got a hatrick while bowling. When the time came for us to bat, we made 5/65, with two overs to go.

We would like to thank the umpires for taking time out of their day to umpire the game and thank you to the parents who came to cheer us on throughout the game. Also, a big thank you to our coaches Mr Smith and Brayden for training us throughout the year. It really made a big difference and we played well as a team because of you. Thanks to Alicia for helping transport the girls to and from the game, without this, the game would not be possible. Thanks to Stella Maris and the coaches for making it a close, stressful and challenging game.

This is now back-to-back state titles for the Year 6s and the third year in a row for GPS! We are so proud of the 2023 Girls' Cricket Team, as they have proved to be undefeated for the year. We put in so much effort and it definitely paid off. Congratulations!
