Principal's Report

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." - Malcolm X

As we approach the culmination of another academic year, it is with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude that I share the final Principal's Report for our inaugural year as a Year 7 - 12 college.

This year has been marked by resilience, growth and community spirit. Our students have excelled in academics, sports and the arts, embodying the values that define Beaumaris Secondary College. From innovative projects to cultural exchanges, each achievement reflects the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, involved parents and, most importantly, our exceptional students.

VCE Results

Congratulations to our fantastic foundation Year 12 students on their VCE results. Students rose to the challenge and they have been rewarded with the fruits of their efforts.  We celebrate not only their academic successes but also their growth as individuals throughout their time at our school.

80+: 30%

70+: 42%

A special mention and huge congratulations to our inaugural Dux, Margot. Margot has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities as both a Year Level and House Captain. Her achievements extend beyond the academic realm, earning accolades at our High Achievers' Breakfasts and winning prestigious awards, including the ‘Belong’ Award and Geoff Hunt Excellence in Sports Award.

We look forward to witnessing the continued success and growth of all our students, and we can't wait to see the incredible paths they carve for themselves in the future.

Presentation Evening

Congratulations to our 2023 awardees who were honoured at our annual Presentation Evening on 7 December. It was a wonderful celebration commemorating another remarkable year at BSC. Congratulations also, to the talented students who performed on the night. You can find my speech, which sums up my feelings about the year and the event, on the Presentation Evening page of this newsletter.

I would like to sincerely thank Peter Bartlett for his outstanding organisation of this event once again.

2024 Student Leaders

Leadership speeches were held at assembly on Monday 4 December. We applaud all students who embraced the opportunity for personal and leadership growth.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our 2024 College Captains, gearing up to seamlessly transition into their roles at the start of next year.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

This year, we introduced the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award at Beaumaris Secondary College, a transformative journey empowering youth through physical recreation, skills, voluntary service and adventurous journeys. Congratulations to the following students who have achieved their Bronze Award: Paige C, Ruby E, Oliver H, Ronan K, Phoebe M, Chloe P, Faith R, Judah S, Autumn T, Mila W and Sophie W.

Well done to our trailblazing achievers and a heartfelt thank you to Sophie Zhou and Heath Tregear for their instrumental role in getting this program up and running.

Kokoda Trek

A remarkable feat accomplished by our extraordinary students and Assistant Principals, Peter Bartlett and Deb Kirk, conquering the challenging Kokoda Trek! Their resilience, teamwork and determination have not only left an indelible mark on the trail but have also become a source of inspiration for our entire school community. It has been truly amazing hearing about the enriching experiences and lessons learned during this extraordinary journey.

BE Program

The BE Program kicked off our 2024 curriculum with tremendous success. The program has not only ignited enthusiasm among our students but has also energised our dedicated staff. It was a fantastic start, fostering engagement and setting a positive tone for the academic year ahead.

Micro-credentials Week

It has been wonderful witnessing students immerse themselves in Micro-Credentials Week, seizing the opportunity to explore alternative learning paths and acquire new knowledge and skills in a low-stakes environment. A special thank you to Maddy Hunter-Smith for her fantastic work in co-ordinating this impactful week.

Great Vic Bike Ride

Congratulations to the GVBR participants for conquering this challenging ride and embodying the spirit of resilience. The ride not only showcased their physical prowess but also exemplified their determination in trying conditions.

French Exchange

The spirit of cultural exchange is alive at our school! In June, we warmly welcomed our first exchange students from France, and now our Year 11 French students are currently immersed in the rich experiences of France. Diana Schepisi and I had the pleasure of accompanying them for the first week, witnessing the beginning of what promises to be a journey filled with amazing adventures. Wishing our students an enriching and unforgettable time until their return in January.

VCE Information Night

Thank you to all the families who attended the 2024 VCE Information Night, both in person and online.  We are grateful for the strong support from parents and carers - your commitment to your child's education is key to our college's success.

Our Inclusions Program

We take great pride in providing an inclusive and supportive educational experience for every student. It has been heartening to receive positive feedback from parents affirming the success of our efforts. Your acknowledgment reinforces our commitment to a learning centred approach that is personalised to each student. Special thanks to Deb Kirk and Aimee Blackman for their efforts in this space.

Year 7 2024 Orientation Day

This week marked an exciting milestone as we hosted our 2024 Year 7 students for Orientation Day. We look forward to welcoming 124 new students and their families to the college next year. The Orientation Day set a positive tone for the start of their educational journey.

Holiday Spirit

A heartfelt thank you to each family who generously contributed to our Food For Families Drive. Your support has made a meaningful impact on the lives of those facing food insecurity, aligning perfectly with our commitment to building a caring and supportive community.

If you didn't get the chance to bring items in but would still like to help, please consider making a donation.

Please take the time to wander through the Beaumaris concourse and immerse yourself in the creativity of our talented artists who contributed to the Beaumaris Neighbourhood Watch Whimsical Windows project.

As we approach the final days of this academic year, please note that:

  • The last day of scheduled activities is Friday 15 December.
  • Supervision will be available on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 December, and until 11am on Wednesday 20 December.
  • Semester 2 reports will be available on Compass next week - a notification will be sent when they ready.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to our incredible staff, supported by our dedicated parent community and Parents' Association, for ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students throughout the year. A special thanks to our School Council members for their unwavering support of the college and our programs.

Wishing you all a restful and joyful holiday season. I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
