First Eucharist - Grade 4

As part of the commitment for the Sacrament, the Parish warmly invites those Grade 4 families who have registered their child for the Sacrament of Eucharist to attend the Parent and Child First Eucharist Workshop and Commitment Mass this Sunday, 3 May.  This gathering marks an important step in preparing to receive the Sacrament.

Parent and Child First Eucharist Workshop

The workshop will take place this Sunday, 3 May from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene.  It will provide a context for parents and children to discuss their perspective and understanding of Eucharist.  It is an expectation that a parent will attend with their child.  A snack and a drink will be provided.

Our Lady of Pentecost First Eucharist Commitment Mass

You are invited to formally present your child at the Commitment Mass onSunday, 3 May at 5.00 pm at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Deepdene.  This presentation indicates you believe your child is ready to receive the Eucharist for the first time.  On this occasion, candidates themselves will also commit to the preparation for First Eucharist.

ANZAC Day Mass

Thank you to everybody who attended our ANZAC Day Mass. We are especially grateful for Brigadier John Holloway (father of Freddie in 3/4JH) who spoke before Mass about the significance of ANZAC Day. Well done also to our readers and helpers who all performed their roles superbly.

Project Compassion

Thank you to everybody who has donated or raised funds for Project Compassion in 2026.

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, the brave teachers who volunteered to be dunked with icy cold water if we reached certain fundrasing targets stepped up to the challenge. Thank you to Mr Byrne, Ms Dening, Mr Gulavin, Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Hautot, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Pettinato, Mrs Gill, Mrs Hansen, Ms Mackay, Mrs Hollow, Mr Dame and Fr Sang. Click the links below to see the videos.

We have completely smashed our target and have currently raised $3,963.

At Monday's assembly, our special guest was Michael McGirr - Mission Facilitator for Caritas Australia. Michael thanked our school community on behalf of Caritas and also spoke about of some of the areas Caritas is currently providing support.

Caritas is still taking donations, so if you would like to donate, simply click the link below.

RE Learning in 1/2HK

Students have been learning about different images of God to help them understand what God is like. They explored the idea of God as a shepherd, who cares for and guides His people, just like a shepherd looks after sheep and keeps them safe. They also learned about God as a potter, who carefully creates and shapes each person with love and purpose. Through these images, students are beginning to understand that God is both caring and creative, and that each person is important to Him.

The students created Images of God posters to illustrate the many different ways that they 'see' and 'feel' God in their lives.

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am now going to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.’

Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said:

‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you know me, you know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.’

Philip said, ‘Lord, let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied.’ ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip,’ said Jesus to him ‘and you still do not know me?

‘To have seen me is to have seen the Father,so  how can you say, “Let us see the Father”?

Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak as from myself: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing this work. You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; believe it on the evidence of this work, if for no other reason.

‘I tell you most solemnly, whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself, he will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.’

Discussion Questions

1. What are some really precious things you have?

2. What makes them precious?

3. Jesus says that we are precious in his eyes. How are we precious in God’s sight?

4. We can do good works because Jesus lives in us. What good works can we do this week?
