World Challenge Expedition

Annie Hearne - Head of Year 10

'A group of 15 of us went to Borneo last year at the end of Term 4, with Ms Hearne, Mr Mitchell and our World Challenge Leader Malaika. It was an incredible, life-changing journey. We got to experience new opportunities, and a different world compared to home life. We explored Kuching and spent some time living in a local community’s longhouse, where we stayed with families and built paths to make their lives easier. We also had the opportunity to see Orangutans at the Semenggoh Centre. Then we went to Kota Kinabalu and snorkelled and explored the night markets. We then went on a four day trek through the jungle, in Borneo’s monsoon season – camping every night. We made it up what the locals call “Cry Hill” with not a single tear shed. We then went to Sepilok, where we stayed in a jungle resort and saw more orangutans and sun bears. We adopted a sunbear and orangutan, and the certificates can be seen outside the Year 10 and 11 Office. Overall, we had an incredible time and we are so grateful for the opportunities provided to us on the trip'. Sophia, Emma and Marissa World
