Captains' Corner

Shaye Mattison - Vice School Captain

Hello, welcome to the first edition of the newsletter ‘Captains' Corner’. I am very excited to be the first to share wonderful news about what has been happening in the first few weeks here at Norwood. I am Shaye Mattison, your 2025 Vice School Captain. The first few weeks have been amazing, starting with the Year 12’s getting their jackets. This was such a special and exciting moment for us. It brings out the butterflies for this year.

Time flies when you're having fun. Our first school assembly was held last week. This was the first time Tayla, Liam, Jacksyn and I, as the leadership team had the opportunity to speak at the assembly. The new Year 7’s were introduced to the school.  I can’t believe it was five years ago, when I was starting and now I'm sitting at the front of the school being a Vice Captain. The Year 12 students were individually asked to come up and collect their badges. There were lots of smiles and laughs.

This week was full of activities for us Year 12s, having our first full week of school. The focus was on learning how to manage time and workload whilst enjoying being back at school with each other. We enjoyed using the common room, making toasties and having leftovers for lunch.

On Thursday, the Leadership Team had training with the amazing Darren Pereira from Success Integrated. We learnt more about each other and shared our aspirations and goals for Norwood in 2025. We were able to brainstorm ideas and new opportunities that may come to life this year. We gained skills in how to be a good leader, confidence building, and listened to some motivational insights from Darren. It was an excellent opportunity, and we are very keen to have him back here again. On behalf of myself and the rest of the leadership team, I would like to thank Mrs Beggs and Mr Sheehan for organising this for us.

Have a fabulous week.
