A message from Stage 2
Thank you so much to all our parents and families who were able to join us for Education Week. It was wonderful to see our students showing off their work and proudly talking about all the amazing things they’ve accomplished so far this year. Stage 2 is certainly full of hard workers!
In our upcoming English lessons, students will read and explore a wide range of texts, including stories, poems, and factual information. They will dive into how these texts are put together, look at the language authors use, and discover how meaning is created. The students will also have the chance to write their own stories, making sure they include interesting characters, settings and events. They will practise writing informative reports about topics they have been learning in class. We encourage them to organise their ideas into paragraphs, use creative vocabulary, and connect their thoughts clearly. Students will share their ideas in discussions and present their work to the class, building confidence in communicating.
During maths sessions over the remainder of the term, students will be learning about different 3D shapes such as cubes, spheres, and pyramids. They will participate in hands-on activities, discovering what makes each shape unique, and how to measure their volume to see how much space they take up. Students will also explore different angles and practise finding and measuring them in shapes and everyday objects. We will be working on reading clocks, understanding units of time, and solving problems involving time, such as working out how long things take and reading timetables.
This term in visual arts, students are creating artworks connected to their learning in science and geography. They are exploring different skills such as sculpting, designing maps using special symbols to show important places around Armidale, and drawing landscapes. These activities help students express their understanding of the world around them in creative ways, linking their art to what they are discovering in other subjects.
Our Semester 2 electives are now underway! Some students have continued with choir, dance, and circus, while others are exploring new options such as STEM, sports skills, peer support, French and cooking. We are proud to offer a variety of activities to keep our Stage 2 students engaged and excited to learn.
