Stage 1

Welcome to Week 6!

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 3! It has been wonderful to see our Stage 1 students learning, growing and enjoying their time at school. 

 

A big thank you to all the parents, carers and extended family who joined us for our Education Week open classes and assembly. It was wonderful to see some Stage 1 students confidently sharing their learning and confidently speaking in front of an audience. Our Stage 1 Choir also delighted us with their beautiful performance of Koala Lullaby. We are so proud of the confidence, enthusiasm and effort our students demonstrated!

Ooshies and Small Toys

We have noticed an increase in students bringing Ooshies, Pokémon cards and other small toys to school. While we understand that these items are special to students, we encourage families to keep precious and collectible items at home.

To help prevent disagreements, lost items and other issues, Ooshies, Pokémon cards and other toys are not to be traded, exchanged or given away at school. 

Thank you for your support in helping us keep our playground and classroom environments positive for our students.

Stage 1 are PAX Leaders

As a PAX school, we are continuing to remind our Stage 1 students that every student is a PAX Leader. Being a PAX Leader means making positive choices that help create a safe, respectful and happy school environment for everyone.

This week, Stage 1 are focusing on three simple ways our students can be PAX Leaders:

• PAX Safe Hands and Feet – keeping our hands and feet to ourselves and asking a teacher for assistance if we have an issue that we are having difficulty resolving.

• PAX Voices – using our 0–3 cm voices in the classroom, hallways and bathrooms so that all classes can learn without disruption.

• Respecting Belongings – looking after our own belongings and respecting the belongings of others. Students are reminded to ask permission before touching or using something that belongs to someone else and to leave special or valuable items at home

• PAX Responsibility – cleaning up after ourselves and putting our rubbish in the bin after eating.

   

We are very proud of the way our Stage 1 students are developing their PAX leadership skills. We would love families to support us by talking with your child about these expectations at home and encouraging them to be a PAX Leader wherever they are. English

This week, Stage 1 students are continuing to develop their persuasive writing skills by learning how to structure a persuasive text, use compound sentences, paragraphs, rhetorical questions and high-modality words, and support their opinions with clear reasons and evidence.

We are learning to:

• structure a persuasive text with a heading, introduction, opinion, reasons, evidence and conclusion

• use paragraphs to organise our ideas

• use compound sentences to add detail

• use rhetorical questions to engage our reader

• use high-modality words such as must, should, definitely and always

• give clear reasons and evidence to support our opinion.

Mathematics

Our Stage 1 maths groups are continuing to develop their understanding of multiplication and division, with learning activities differentiated to meet students at their current level.

Learning Intention: We are learning to use equal groups, counting strategies, drawings, arrays and number sentences to solve multiplication and division problems.

Learning focuses include:

• making and counting equal groups, sharing objects fairly and developing counting strategies.

• making equal groups, skip counting, repeated addition and representing multiplication and division situations.

• representing multiplication and division using equal groups, arrays, repeated addition, skip counting and number sentences, and solving simple problems using efficient strategies.
