Year 7 & 8 News

Welcome back to a fresh term and semester! Students in Year 7 and 8 have settled back into their routines quickly, this is shown by the amount of Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPAs) sent out in the first few weeks. We have been lucky enough to welcome Kirti Kumari and Bronwyn Webster into the 7/8 team this term. They have quickly formed great routines, high expectations and relationships with their classes.
Around the Classes
Physical Education
In PE, students have begun attending the Traralgon Aquatic Centre for compulsory swimming. Half of the 7/8 cohort will be attending this term, the other half in Term 4. Swimming is compulsory and consent is required through compass. Students without consent will be completing water safety theory back at school and will receive a DNP-LP on their reports, so it is important to attend these sessions.
Maths
In Maths, Year 8 students are studying Algebra, with a current focus on adding and multiplying algebraic terms.
English
In English, students at 7 and 8 have been learning how to respond to a text. Year 7s are reading the novel ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman, and Year 8s are watching ‘Remember the Titans’ as their respective mentor texts.
Humanities
Year 7s have started their Geography Unit on Water in the World. Students are learning about classifications of environmental resources, and how water is a resource. Additionally, they are exploring how water connects places. Skills students will learn include how to ethically collect, record and select relevant geographical data and information from useful sources.
Year 8 Camp
Year 8 Camp planning is underway, with consent live on Compass. Year 8 Camp is at the beginning of term 4 and will be at Karoonda Park. This camp will allow students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, build new friendships, challenge themselves in numerous situations, see their peers in a different light and step outside their comfort zone.
For any questions or concerns regarding Year 8 Camp, please contact Assistant Team Leader, Anna McGregor.
Year 7 and 8 Goals (Kurnai Positive Acknowledgments)

We understand the importance of celebrating the positive success our students demonstrate every day.
