Message from our
Campus Principal
I spent last Thursday at our College NAIDOC celebrations. Over the years, this experience that was initiated to help bring cultural pride to our First Nations students in their experience of school has developed into a celebration that is the envy of our education peers. I am proud to be a part of a school that continuously strives to create a culturally safe environment.
I was particularly proud to see our Deadly Culture dancers performing with pride and confidence and thank the Koorie support team at the College, Hayden, Marina and Hollie, for the work that they do to build the confidence of these students.
Every year, our learning community is surveyed to provide feedback about how they feel about the school, including the learning environment, relationships between key stakeholders, attitudes towards learning, confidence and school pride. In term 2, this survey was delivered to our student body and indications are that the results are exceptionally strong and positive. Our staff are currently undertaking the survey to provide their perspective. Soon, our parent body will also receive a request for feedback and I would encourage you to provide that feedback. We take the data very seriously and use it to drive our priorities for the future. I also encourage you, if you have any concerns or have a positive experience to share, to please contact me at the school or by emailing daniel.swallow@education.vic.gov.au.
Our community would be well aware of the difficulties all schools have faced in recent times with staffing in a state-wide teacher shortage. I am pleased to say that we have several new staff who have already started with us or are starting in the coming couple of weeks, which will see us fully staffed at Morwell Campus. Throughout the shortage so far, we have managed to deliver most programs without interruption which has been exceptionally good. My thanks to the students who have been so patient when their learning was impacted. The future is very positive. Our new teaching staff profile includes:
We are very excited to have such a large growth in our teaching staff and those that have already started with us have proved to be excellent educators with a wealth of experience and a great deal of care for your children.
On staffing, I would also like to congratulate Mr Daniel Murphy who has recently been appointed to continue as an Assistant Principal at Morwell Campus in 2025. Next year he will move out of his role in charge of Year 7 and 8 and take on a new role with oversight of the wellbeing and engagement of Morwell Campus students from Years 7-10. Daniel is very excited to continue to work with our students in his new role and to be able to continue working with all the students he has got to know over the years in his previous role.
Morwell Campus is currently looking at increasing our leadership and staffing in preparation for 2025 after experiencing significant growth in student numbers in recent years. Overall, the campus has gone from 15 classes in 2019 to now anticipating 19 classes in 2025 and most likely 20 classes in 2026. This is recognition of the positive work we have been doing for so long and the students and parents of our community are describing their experiences of the school as very positive. Thanks to you all for being a part of that and helping us make this school great.
Mr Dan Swallow
