Celebrations in Middle School

Our Year 3 and 4 students have had a wonderful start to the term.

Year 4 students have been preparing for their First Holy Communion, participating in lessons, reflections and activities to deepen their understanding of this important sacrament. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and commitment as they continue their faith journey.

Year 3

English

This term, Year 3 students have begun exploring the informative text Off We Go Around Australia, discovering the country’s diverse landscapes, climates, landmarks, wildlife, and communities. Through this unit, students have been developing their skills in writing explanation reports, learning how to organise information clearly and share facts in an engaging way.

Maths

In Maths, students have continued to develop their understanding of multiplication and division by exploring efficient strategies and applying their skills to problem-solving tasks. They have been using bar models to visualise worded problems, identify key information, and determine the correct operation needed to solve each problem.

Students have also been strengthening their ability to explain their mathematical thinking and apply multiplication and division strategies to real-world situations.

Topic

In topic, students have been exploring what soils are made from, investigating the relationship between soils, rocks, and minerals. They have been learning about different types of minerals, including geological minerals and trace minerals, and how these contribute to the world around us.

Typing Club

Our Year 3 students have been working on developing their typing skills through Typing Club. They have been focusing on using the correct finger placement, building their confidence with touch typing, and improving their accuracy during activities. Students are also practising typing without looking at the keyboard, helping them develop speed, independence, and greater efficiency when using digital technologies.

Year 4

Maths

Students have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes, developing their understanding of the properties and features of different geometric objects. They have been using the properties of squares and rectangles to find unknown lengths and investigating the features of pyramids, including their bases, faces, edges, and vertices.

Students have also been developing their spatial reasoning skills by sketching three-dimensional objects from different viewpoints and creating models using unit cubes from given drawings.

Topic

Students have been investigating forces and motion by designing and creating their own parachutes. They have been exploring how air resistance affects moving objects and investigating whether the size of a parachute impacts how quickly it falls.

Through their experiments, students have been learning about independent, dependent, and controlled variables while developing their skills in fair testing and scientific investigation.

Religion

With First Communion taking place on the 6th of August, our Year 4 students have been preparing for this special sacrament through a range of reflections and lessons. Students have explored the significance of the symbols of the Eucharist, including the meaning behind the bread and wine, and how these represent Jesus’ presence and love. They have also reflected on The Last Supper, developing their understanding of Jesus’ message to his disciples and the importance of the bread as a symbol of Christ’s body. Through these activities, students have been deepening their understanding of the Eucharist and preparing their hearts to receive this important sacrament.

A friendly reminder that students are only to wear small hoops or stud earrings to school, and please make sure they are in the correct sport uniform or full school uniform on the appropriate days. This helps keep everyone safe and supports our uniform expectations.
