NAPLAN Results – A Moment to Celebrate

While we are careful not to place too much emphasis on NAPLAN, as it provides only one snapshot of student achievement, we do value the insights it offers. Alongside the wide range of assessment data we collect throughout the year, NAPLAN serves as a valuable temperature check, helping us reflect on the effectiveness of our teaching practices and the impact of the evidence-based programs we implement across the school.

Over the past three years, we have made a significant investment in strengthening our Literacy program through the implementation of evidence-based approaches, including The Writing Revolution, MSL, Spelling Mastery and Maqlit Literacy Intervention. We are delighted to see these investments translating into strong student outcomes.

Central to this success is our commitment to a knowledge-rich curriculum, grounded in the science of learning. Research shows that students learn best when knowledge is explicitly taught, regularly practised and revisited over time. Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that learning builds progressively from year to year, enabling students to develop deep understanding alongside strong literacy and thinking skills.

In 2025, Sacred Heart partnered with Ochre Education as one of the only schools within Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) to undertake a comprehensive curriculum audit. This partnership has further strengthened the sequencing and coherence of our curriculum, ensuring our students continue to benefit from a high-quality, evidence-informed education.

We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements across all five NAPLAN domains. Our Writing results continue to be a standout, with 100% of Year 3 students and 95% of Year 5 students achieving in the Strong or Exceeding proficiency level. It is also pleasing to see continued improvement in Grammar & Punctuation and Spelling, reflecting the impact of our evidence-informed approach. These results are a testament to the dedication of our staff, the perseverance of our students, and the ongoing support of our families. Together, we are building strong foundations for every learner to thrive.

First Eucharist

Our Year 4 students are looking forward to celebrating the Sacrament of First Eucharist on Thursday 6 August at 5:00 pm.

This week, our candidates have been preparing their hearts for this special occasion. They participated in an instructional Mass with Fr Martin, where they learnt more about the celebration of the Eucharist, and received the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their spiritual preparation.

On Monday, our Year 4 students will enjoy their First Eucharist Retreat Day. Students may wear casual clothes as they take part in a day of prayer, reflection, learning and fun, continuing their preparation for this important milestone in their faith journey.

We keep all of our First Eucharist candidates and their families in our prayers as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.
