All Aboard the Term 3 Learning Express! 🚂 🚂 🚂
Welcome back to what promises to be another wonderful semester filled with high expectations, meaningful learning experiences and many opportunities for our students to grow, discover and achieve their best. We are excited to continue nurturing curiosity, building confidence and celebrating the many successes of our students, both big and small.
On behalf of the Junior Team, we want to thank you for your ongoing support. We know that the best outcomes for our students come when families and teachers work together as a team, encouraging, supporting and celebrating each child's learning journey. Be sure to catch us on the yard if you have any questions or wonderings as the term unfolds, we love any opportunity to connect.
100 Days Brighter 🌟
Can you believe our Prep students have already reached 100 days of school? Time has certainly flown, and our little learners marked this exciting milestone in style! I'm sure you would agree, reaching 100 days of school is a significant achievement in every child's learning journey and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate just how much they have grown in confidence, friendships and learning since starting school.
The Prep students celebrated a day filled with fun. We had both students and teachers dressing up as 💯 year olds, enjoying a range of exciting activities centred around the number 100 and to top it all off, our Preps managed to devour an impressive 100 slices of pizza between them! 🍕💯
A celebration like this would not be possible without our dedicated Prep teachers, Miss Wood, Miss Porter & Miss Levy. The creativity and effort they put in behind the scenes to make the day so memorable is just admirable. Their hard work helped make our youngest learners feel truly celebrated. So to you we say Thank you!

Two of our wonderful Preppies took it upon themselves to spend part of their lunchtime raking up the sand bark and helping to tidy our school grounds. Mrs Farrari was beaming with pride when she spotted the boys taking the initiative to care for our school. What a fantastic example of responsibility, teamwork and school pride, well done superstars! 🌿💚
Year One News
It's been an absolute joy to welcome our Year One students back this term. They have bounced straight back into learning with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles, proving that a holiday recharge was just what they needed! In MSL, students have been strengthening their phonics knowledge by learning when to use the spelling patterns 'oi' and 'oy' to represent the /oi/ sound. They have explored that 'oi' is most commonly found in the middle of words, such as boil, coin and voice, while 'oy' is usually found at the end of words, such as toy, enjoy and annoy.
Students have aslo been building their understanding of the ee spelling pattern using the hook, 'Double the Power', to recognise that ‘ee’ together make the long /e/ sound in words such as beep, green, and sleep. Students have also been building their understanding of the 'ee' spelling pattern using the memorable hook, 'Double the Power'. They have learned that when ‘ee’ stand together, they work as a team to make the long /e/ sound in words such as beep, green, sleep and feet.
In Writing, students have been learning about adverbs of manner and how they can add more detail to their sentences. They have been identifying adverbs, finding the verbs they describe, and experimenting with adding words such as quickly, carefully and quietly to make their writing more interesting.
In Maths Year One students have been exploring three-part repeating patterns. They have been learning to identify and label ABC patterns, recognise the unit of repeat, and use this to confidently continue a pattern. They have been engaging in hands on activities using colours, shapes, objects and movements, to develop their ability to predict what comes next and explain the rule that makes the pattern repeat.
Year Two News
Our Year Two students have not wasted a moment jumping straight back into learning and have settled into the term beautifully. They have been enjoying our Knowledge Rich Curriculum, with a fascinating focus on Ötzi the Iceman and exploring what we can learn from historical artefacts. Through this unit, students have been developing their understanding of language by identifying and using subject and object pronouns, as well as exploring possessive adjectives and pronouns.
In MSL, students have been learning the spelling patterns 'ow' and 'ou' and learning that these graphemes can both represent the /ow/ sound, as heard in words such as cow, brown, flower, cloud, shout and mouth.
Students have also learning about the trigraph 'igh', recognising that when these three letters work together, they make the long /i/ sound. They have been practising reading and spelling words such as light, night, bright, high, sight and flight, while recognising that although three letters are used, they produce just one sound.
In Maths, the Year Twos have been developing their understanding of Mass, Volume and Capacity. They have explored how objects can be balanced or unbalanced, compared the capacity of different containers, and used informal units to measure.
Additionally, students have begun exploring multiplication as repeated addition, recognising that the multiplication symbol means ‘groups of. They have been doing a fantastic job at making groups of numbers and carefully identifying what they see in each group. For example, you could often hear them echo, “I can see three groups, and in each group there are five cubes. Altogether, there are fifteen cubes.” 3 x 5 = 15
The luck of the Irish has certainly been with us this term! ☘️ We have been delighted to welcome our student teacher, Anne Moore, to 2O. With Irish connections, Anne has joined us for her final teaching placement before officially becoming a qualified teacher. Her warmth, enthusiasm and engaging lessons have quickly made her a favourite in our classroom.
Creativity Comes to Light: The Glow Show 🎨
Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of celebrating the incredible creativity and dedication that goes on behind the scenes in Ms Gray’s Art classes. It was wonderful to catch a glimpse of the amazing work our junior students have been creating and to see their imagination come to life. Students enjoyed a well deserved sausage sizzle before our Year One students treated us to a very special Italian performance. It was a fantastic celebration of creativity, culture and the many talents of our students. Rumour has it that Ms Gray might just be the best art teacher in the State! 😉
