Rowing:

Last Saturday, our junior rowers took to the water at the New Norfolk Junior Quad Sprint Regatta. Racing 500m across multiple divisions, the boys put in a great effort, finishing 2nd overall in the Junior Shield, just one point behind The Hutchins School.

On Sunday, the senior squad raced in the Ally Cashion long-distance 9km race. SVC finished 1st place in both the Single Scull and the Quad Scull events. A brilliant effort, boys. Congratulations to all students, coaches, and supporters involved over the weekend.

Coyle-Clingeleffer Cup

Team sVc recently took on St Patrick's College, Launceston, in the Coyle-Clingeleffer Cup.

Now in its 14th year, the Annual Year 9 match honours former students and Tasmanian Cricket royalty, Tim Coye (SPC) and Sean Clingeleffer (SVC), and also in loving memory of former SVC staff member and cricket stalwart, the late Mark Waddington.

Under extremely windy conditions and dark skies, Team sVc struggled early at 4/28, until a record-breaking (for this fixture) partnership of 211 between Kai Martin (113) and Edward Beven 89* set up the ultimately winning score of 6/262 from 50 overs.

Like SVC, SPC struggled early to be 6/60 from 15 overs, before the heavens opened and the match was abandoned due to rain.

Under the DLS, Team sVc retained the Coyle-Clingeleffer Cup by 119 runs.

St Virgil's College would like to thank St Patrick's College, Launceston, for their incredible hospitality, facilities and sportsmanship.  May this fixture and the tradition continue for many years to come.

A special mention and thank you to Jonathon James and the SPC ground staff, along with the umpire and Team sVc coaches, Kayden Hine and Thomas Grice.

Match Summary:

SVC 6/262 (50) def SPC 6/60 (15) - DLS by 119 runs.

Kai Martin 113 from 119 balls.

Edward Beven 89* from 135 balls.

Harvey Alomes 2/7

Lucas Johnson 2/12

Kai Martin 2/10

Well done, boys.  We now look forward to the 2026 State SATIS 1st roster, starting mid-January, along with a friendly match against a visiting team from Brisbane Boys College.

Congratulations to the following SVC students for representing Tasmania in their chosen sports of Soccer and Cricket.

Year 7 students, Angus Newsham-West and Ernie Derham were both in Melbourne recently with the Tasmanian U13 soccer team, playing a variety of different teams over the weekend.

Further, Hayden Clark-Sullivan (Year 11) travelled to Perth last week to represent Tasmania in the U19 National Cricket Championships.  Trent Smith (Year 10) has also been selected this week for the U17 team to play in the National Cricket Championships in Brisbane in January.
