Literacy
In Literacy, the Prep students learned to read the sounds and letters b, h, and l, and practised spelling the words bib, ham, lad, and bun. They also learned to write the upper- and lower-case letters h, m, and l, while developing confidence in reading and writing the high-frequency word “said.”
The Grade 1/2 students learned to read and spell the words why, while, reptile, untie, and lightning. They explored words containing the grapheme-phoneme correspondences ie, y, igh, and i_e, and practised reading and spelling these words independently. Students also investigated the suffixes plural -es, past tense -ed, and progressive -ing, developing their understanding of how these word endings change meaning.
As part of our P–2 text study of What Do You Call Your Grandma?, students explored the themes within the story and practised making meaningful connections between the text and their own experiences. This helped to deepen their understanding and engagement with the book.
Maths
In Maths, students completed their Location and Time unit. Throughout the unit, they developed their understanding of sequencing events, identifying the days of the week, and using ordinal language such as first, second, and third. Students should be proud of the progress they made in building these important concepts. Over the coming weeks, students will begin exploring Multiplicative Thinking, where they will investigate equal groups, sharing, and early division concepts through a range of hands-on and engaging learning experiences.
Art
We are exploring the techniques of acrylic paint, specifically techniques such as scgraffito, dots, wet on wet and splatter. Students have studied Eric Carle's work of The Tiny Seed and have created a beautiful art display of flowers using the scgraffito technique. Our art room is looking amazing!
