Wellbeing

For the rest of Term Two students will be working through the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program's topic on 'Problem Solving' during their Wellbeing lessons.

🧠 RRRR Topic 4: Problem Solving

Helping children learn to solve problems calmly and confidently is one of the most important life skills we can teach. In the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program, students explore ways to recognise problems, think through possible solutions, consider consequences, and make positive choices.

đŸŒ± What we’re learning at school

Students are practising how to:

  • Identify a problem — noticing when something isn’t working or feels unfair.
  • Use calm‑down strategies — taking a breath, counting to ten, or taking a break before responding.
  • Brainstorm solutions — thinking of more than one way to fix a situation.
  • Consider consequences — understanding how choices affect themselves and others.
  • Choose a fair solution — selecting an option that is safe, respectful and helpful.

These skills help children build resilience, independence and strong relationships.

🏡 How families can support problem solving at home

  • Encourage your child to talk through a tricky situation rather than jumping straight to a solution.
  • Model thinking aloud when you face everyday problems.
  • Praise effort and persistence, not just the outcome.
  • Use phrases like:
    • “What else could we try?”
    • “How do you think the other person felt?”
    • “What would be a fair solution?”
