Our Year 5/6 students have been exploring the fascinating world of Italian pasta. We have been learning about the history of pasta, discovering the many different pasta shapes and exploring how pasta has become such an important part of our food and culture.
To bring our learning to life, the students had the opportunity to make pasta from scratch using just flour and water. Without any special equipment, they used their hands and fingers to mix, knead and shape their own dough, giving us a little taste of how pasta may have been made in days gone by.
I was particularly happy to see the resilience and determination the students showed as they then worked to create their own pasta shapes, including orecchiette, meaning “little ears”. They persevered, tried different techniques and helped each other. We had some real success with our pasta shapes.
