Year 5/6
Over the last few of weeks the Year 5/6 have been learning about how living creatures make adaptations to survive in the wild. They learnt about the Glowing Spider Worm and how it catches its prey by producing sticky silk threads for insects to fly into. The students worked in groups to create a cave and experiment with different liquids to see which liquid would be sticky enough to catch an insect. They used, juice, oil, milk and honey.
They also learnt about how Bioluminescence is important for many sea creatures and how they use it to attract their prey or scare of their predators. The students were involved in an experiment using phosphorescent powder mixed with paint, and applied to a plastic bag (used as a coat/vest). Once the paint was dry, the students went into the disabled toilet and could see how their coat/vest glowed in the dark. It was amazing to see and there were many 'Wows' heard.
Year 3/4
In Year 3/4 students have been learning about how seeds are dispersed, how pollen is transfered between flowers and this week they made butterfly feeders to encourage more butterflies in the playground.
Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2
In Foundation, Year One and Year Two we have be learning about living things and how we can use recycled materials to make a bug hotel. Students have had lots of fun using different items to make their bug hotel.

ITALIAN
Foundation – Il Bruco Molto Affamato
Foundation students have been enjoying the much-loved children’s story Il Bruco Molto Affamato (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) by Eric Carle in Italian class. Through this familiar and engaging story, students are learning the days of the week and the Italian names for a variety of fruits, including mela (apple), pera (pear) and fragola (strawberry), while also reinforcing their knowledge of numbers and colours.
Students are developing their Italian listening and speaking skills as they learn new vocabulary, practise repeating words and phrases, and join in with the story. They have been highly engaged and enthusiastic, enjoying the opportunity to hear a favourite story in a new language and confidently joining in with the Italian words they are learning.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Term 3 has been a busy time in PE, with our Year 4/5/6 students getting involved in several inter-school sporting events. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers and staff who have given their time and energy to support our students throughout the term.
Week 9 was a highlight of the term, with students from Year 5/6 competing in a day-long basketball competition with neighbouring schools. The district athletics finals also took place in Week 9 - well done Viraj and Kaone for representing Sacred Heart in the discus and 200m events.
Looking forward to Term 4!
