CHAPLAIN CHAT

R U OK? ~

This week, our school community came together to acknowledge R U OK? Day through a range of activities that encouraged reflection, fun and connection.

One highlight was our "Pass the Positivity" activity, where students selected a slip featuring a positive quality or message to give to another student or staff member. Messages included, "Give this to a staff member who makes our school brighter" and "Give this to a student you can trust." It was wonderful to see students taking the time to recognise and encourage the people around them.

The celebrations continued with yellow cupcakes, music, lollies and prizes, a yellow duck hunt, outdoor games, and our inaugural paper aeroplane competition. Our first three place-getters were Mark in first place, Harris in second and Mitchell in third. Well done, Mark! A fun fact about Harris is that he has placed in the top three every year he has been at the College.

Days such as R U OK? Day are a wonderful reminder of the importance of community. They give us opportunities to connect, check in, encourage our peers, and, most importantly, bring joy to those who may be struggling. Each year, our students embrace these activities and experiences with such gratitude and appreciation, and it is a privilege to see their enthusiasm.

A big thank you to our wonderful kitchen staff for providing so many delicious yellow treats and helping make the day extra special.

Life after school ~

Yesterday, our Year 12 students enjoyed a special presentation by Bree, a representative from the Red Frogs organisation.

The session covered a range of important topics to help prepare our students for life after school, including building a strong friend group, developing a positive mindset, drug and alcohol awareness, what to expect during Leavers Week, and the many ways Red Frogs volunteers can provide support.

The Year 12 students stayed engaged throughout the session and shared plenty of laughs, particularly when trying on the famous beer goggles and taking part in a range of interactive activities. A highlight of the afternoon was the delicious grazing platter, which proved to be a real treat

It was a valuable afternoon that combined important information, meaningful conversations, and personal reflection, giving our Year 12 students useful tools and encouragement as they look towards the next chapter of their lives.

The small number of Year 12 students who were unable to take part will spend some time with me at lunchtime on Monday. I look forward to continuing the conversation with them and ensuring they also have the opportunity to benefit from the valuable information and insights shared.
