Haven Kitchen

September and October saw a busy schedule at Haven, we also celebrated all of our educators and teachers for Educator's Day on the 6th September. A big thankyou to all of our families who wrote some beautiful messages for all of our team and made the day special.

Remember to keep an eye out on our Facebook Page (Haven Early Learning Rowville) for upcoming events including Halloween and Diwali.

Fathers Day Afternoon Tea

Footy/Sport Week & visit from Liam Shiels

A big thankyou to Liam, Claire and Tommy, alongside helper Archer who came out and ran a little footy class with all our of children at Haven. The children learnt to stretch, kick, handball, run and practice targets with the footballs.

Across the week we had (almost) every team represented in jerseys, scarfs, drawings and also enjoyed a footy theme afternoon tea with hot dogs, party pies, sausage roll and football shaped biscuits.

R U OK Day and National Child Protection Week

Haven focused on R U Ok Day and National Child Protection week acts of kindness, trusted people that can help us, how we can express our emotions and making 'kindness trees' showing what makes us happy and how we can be kind to others.

Haven's Kitchen

Haven's menu works on a 5 week rotating basis across the seasons ensuring children are exposed to a variety of foods, textures and cuisines during their days at Haven.

Some new recipes we are trying in our spring menu include:

-Mexican Rice Bake

-Bacon, Pea and Chicken Risotto

-Hidden Bean Mac and Cheese

-Chicken and Sweet Corn Pasta

-Pasta with Sweet Pea Pesto

Finding inspiration from TikTok why not try this one pan Mexican Rice Bake at home. At Haven we cook the rice separate and then mix through the meat and vegetables (due to large quantities) but this recipe can be made to cook all in one.

Mexican Rice Bake

Note: Chicken mince or Beef mince can be used

In a casserole (oven safe) dish add in the following

-1 can of corn kernels and black beans

-500g packet of chicken or beef mince

-3 cups of rice

-2 jars of salsa or 2 cans of crushed tomatoes

-3 cups of water

-1 tablespoon of tomato paste

-Garlic, herbs, stock powder, salt and pepper to taste

Mix all together.

Add in preheated oven (200 degrees fan forced) and cook until rice is soft and meat is cooked (roughly 30-40 minutes).

To serve sprinkle cheese on top (if desired).

Coming soon to our garden..... pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini and cherry tomato :)
