Room Updates

River
River room have been focusing on encouraging self-help and independence. With term 4 now here this will help children with their transition to Sun room. Some of these skills include scrapping bowls after mealtimes, putting drink bottles away, washing hands and using cutlery for meals. Transitions will also include open gate play and joining the Sun room at certain times of the day such as t group time, mealtimes or just to have a play,
Some highlights in the River room have included exploring colours, space, sensory play including shaving foam, rice, water, sand and art and craft. While also loving group times with the use of puppets, block construction and books.
River Room look forward to more walks in the sunshine around the community, with a recent trip to IGA being a hit, where we explored the supermarket and spoke about the foods that we could see such as apples and bananas. We were very popular with everyone saying how cute we looked in the prams and even got a big wave hello from the local butcher.

This Term we are looking at ways to explore numeracy and understanding mathematical concepts. We will do this through daily chats, learning experiences, songs and visuals.
Maths is all around us and we are using mathematical concepts and language with children all the time.
We refer to this with shapes, counting, sorting and sequencing (making patterns) measuring, pouring, scooping, building towers, comparing size order (big and small) and talking about time (5 more minutes of play or it’s almost lunch time)
The past few weeks we have been focusing on the numbers 1-5, 1-8 and 1-10.
Children learn through their working memory or memory recall but slowing things down gives them the opportunity to gain insight on actual number recognition and sequencing and giving the numbers meaning.
We have learnt the songs Highway Number One (The Shenanigans) and 1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive ( Super Simple Songs)
Forest
The past couple of weeks we have been very busy getting ready for our adventure and exploration within our community and learning what is around us. Currently, only three small groups of children have gone (26 children), however, as the wet weather starts to fade, we aim to continue this within the upcoming weeks.
Before we headed off to the CFA, we had a brainstorm on “How can we be safe on our walk?” The Forest Room children were very quick to raise their hands and discuss with each other how we can keep all of us safe.
On our walk to the CFA the children were interested in verbalising what they saw, we were able to see, a lot of cars, trucks, and vans, and at times lucky to see the ambulance and uncover police cars with the siren and lights on!
Once all children attend the CFA, we aim to next discover Wellington Village where we will conduct a ‘Search and Find” activity while we are there.
Learning through our community, the children continue to learn by observing and participating in the community. They further extend their knowledge of what is around them, and safety, and the children learn about themselves, and their world. We look forward to continuing this experience within the upcoming weeks and discovering the different learning the children have grasped! Go Forest Room 😊

Show and Tell- During term 4 the kindergarten children are further preparing their skills towards transitioning to primary school. Each fortnight the children are given the opportunity to present in front of their peers focused on our 4 themes: Holiday/staycation, Favourite toy, Family and free choice.
Show and tell is a great opportunity for the children to stand up in front of the class and share things about their lives, through this it builds on their confidence, self-esteem and pride.
Show and tell also provides many other benefits such as; effective communication, storytelling, descriptive language, sense of self, respectful listening, turn taking, learning to ask questions and a sense of control. The smile on the children's faces says it all, they are all so excited to present on their given day.
