Principal's Report

A Great Start to Term 1
With the first Term almost at an end, I thought it was important to thank all of our staff, parents and students for their warm welcome to Oberon High School throughout this term. I have been really impressed with the collegial and caring nature of staff, working diligently with all our students, while also seeing so many students showcasing their interests, achievements and areas of interest. There are so many positive relationships on display each and every day and I am looking forward to growing further opportunities with staff and students as the year progresses.
Working Together with Families
I would also like to thank those parents who were able to attend our recent whole school assembly, where our student’s achievements, performances and activities were on display. In my 'Meet and Greet' session with parents after the assembly, it was clear that we can improve in our school communication and the sharing of student progress in general, so there will be further opportunities for parents to join us when our assemblies and other events occur. I am very mindful of the need to build strong partnerships with our families, and I would encourage all parents to take up our invitations to future assemblies and other school events as a simple way to build a strong foundation to support and acknowledge our students in their high school journey. Educational research also indicates that the stronger our relationships with families, the better educational and wellbeing needs for our students. I view the family-school partnership as critical to individual student success and the wider success of Oberon High School.
Open Night Highlights
Recently we conducted our school Open Night, which despite the very cold and inclement weather, was well attended and allowed our students to showcase and highlight the breadth of offerings across the school. Seeing the excitement and interest displayed by our students, when leading tour groups or talking to prospective parents and their children, was a real positive for me, being new to the school. I enjoyed learning about their interests, passions and the sense of pride they have in their school when visiting the various learning area presentations, displays and activities. I would also like to thank the staff who spent many hours preparing displays and presentations for the night, which is outside of their normal professional duties but always welcomed from a Principal perspective. We are continuing to offer school tours throughout next term so please feel free to let members of our local community know about the school and we look forward to meeting them in the future.
End of Term Reminders
As a final note, please be aware that on our final day of Term 1, all formal classes finish at 2.30pm when students will be dismissed for their holiday break. I would like to wish all of our staff, students and families a safe and restful holiday break (even if it’s just for Easter) and I hope that it provides some terrific opportunities for everyone to unwind. At the very least, I hope that everyone is able to spend some quality time with those that matter and we certainly look forward to building an even better school on our return for Term 2. Please look after yourselves and I look forward to seeing everyone on April 20th for the start of Term 2.
