P/1 Superheroes
We have had a wonderful fortnight in P/1, making the most of the beautiful spring sunshine while enjoying lots of exciting learning experiences!
Last week, we celebrated Book Week, and it was fantastic to see the students arrive in so many creative and amazing costumes. A big congratulations to Lily and Ryker, who were our P/1 costume winners!
This week, we have been learning about the structure and purpose of writing a card for a special person in our life. The students have enjoyed putting their learning into practice by designing and creating a special card in preparation for Father’s/Special Person’s Day this weekend. It has been lovely to see the thought and creativity that has gone into each card.
Level 1 students made origami boats as a Storybook activity after reading the story, ‘Bing’. A story about a young duckling named Ping.

Another fortnight has flashed past and we are now on the home straight to the end of the term!
Our Story Players sessions have seen the students practicing for the up coming performance. It’s sure to be a great retell of a bit of Inglewood History!
In Maths, we have been investigating the difference between regular and irregular shapes. In case, you didn’t know regular triangles have side of equal length and irregular shapes don’t. Here is a regular pentagon and an irregular pentagon. Both have 5 sides but their lengths are where you find the difference!
In Writing, we have begun writing poetry! Poetry can be a tough topic to understand and write but our students have begun with great success writing their first poem today- A Five Senses Poem.
In my literacy group, we have been learning about

The main event of the Grade 2 calendar –‘The Sleepover’ has been booked in for the 17th September! The prep/1/2 students will stay behind after school for some fun games, dinner and a disco. The preps will head home after the disco and the grade 1/2s will settle in to watch a movie and sleep at school. Keep an eye out for more information including a permission form, ‘What to Bring List’ and medical form that will be coming home soon.

News from 4/5/6
If you have been at IPS recently, you will have noticed that the 4/5/6 classroom is looking a little bit different than it usually does! For the past few weeks we have had several fans set up along our back wall to help dry out some lingering moisture, and these have meant some changes to our normal routine. Whether working in the art room or the kitchen, throughout this time all of the students have stayed focused on their learning and have shown amazing resilience, and they should be really proud of themselves- I know I am!
In Literacy, we are very near the end of our book Bindi, and the students are continuing to find studying it very engaging. In Humanities they have been learning about bushfires in Australia, and have been making lots of connections between the events in Bindi and their research in Geography.
In Maths were are exploring all things related to data- how to design survey questions, gather and record responses, and represent their results effectively. We have also been practicing our times tables more frequently, and it is amazing to see how much the students’ confidence has grown since the beginning of the year!
