Year 5 Steps Back in Time at Kryal Castle

This week, our Year 5 students journeyed back almost 1,000 years with a fantastic excursion to Kryal Castle, supporting their Humanities studies of Medieval Europe.

Throughout the day, students were immersed in the sights, sounds and stories of medieval life as they explored a replica castle and took part in a range of engaging, hands-on workshops. They investigated the structure of the Feudal System, learnt about the devastating impact of the Black Death, and discovered the important role played by medieval apothecaries in treating illness and injury.

The day also provided plenty of opportunities for students to experience the practical side of life in the Middle Ages. They tried their hand at traditional leatherwork, watched demonstrations of hand-to-hand combat, and even joined in with medieval games and dance.

Excursions like this bring classroom learning to life, allowing students to deepen their understanding by experiencing history in an engaging and memorable way. Judging by the enthusiasm, curiosity and smiles on display throughout the day, our Year 5 students certainly made the most of this wonderful opportunity.
