BioCats - Geelong
On Monday 22nd June, the Grade 5/6s arrived at school, in the dark at 6 am, to travel to GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, to participate in the BioCATS program.
When we arrived at around 10am and after introductions and a snack, we got into it. The kids were put into groups and we were taken through the new Joel Selwood stand to the opposition changerooms. There, we did a scavenger hunt to find the pieces of a puzzle to create a picture of 4 athletes who had competed at Kardinia Park in their respective sports. After that, we went into the team warm up facilities and played some team building games as well as some warm up activities. We then walked out through the race to the ground where the Geelong AFLW team were having a training session. Following that, it was time for a lunch break and a quick play outside. Our final session was in the Sports Museum where the kids could test themselves with sports knowledge, rowing, a lego tower challenge, experience in the commentary booth as well as a closer look at the exhibits. Before we knew it, it was time to hop back on the bus to head home. It was a great day and we all got a lot out of it. We're looking forward to our next trip to Geelong next term, to work in the BioLab facility, focusing on science.
Fun Facts:
The new Joel Selwood Stand cost $160 mil.
The light towers on the ground stand at 73m tall and cost $2.5 mil each to build.
Tatura Winter Sports
Today the Grade 5/6s travelled to Tatura to participate in the Winter Sports Day. The sports were footy, netball and soccer. Murchison Primary as well at Tatura Primary participated. The students were placed into mixed teams. It was wonderful to see the teamwork from everyone and the way the kids worked together with others, even if they hadn't met them before. The kids were also able to have a BBQ lunch with sausages and a drink. It was very welcome on such a cold day. It was a great event!
