Junior Summer Series - Mountain Biking

The JSS is a new mountain biking ex-activity this term which is a collaborative effort between St Philip’s and the local mountain biking club. It will see seven catch ups this term - every Monday, from 5pm to 6.15pm, with the aim to provide skill development, social competition and increased participation of junior mountain biking.

The series kicked off this week, fortunately with kind weather, on the Westside Trails. Dave Atkins and Emma Shearer as the instructors took the crew out on a short course warm up ride where we stopped regularly to discuss A/B lines, attacking/overtaking spots, getting greater power through our pedals, and sprinting. The young folks then busted out two hot laps in the format of a time trial – with lots of red faces at the end after putting in the effort! Well done everyone.

All participants were provided with healthy snacks to fuel themselves before and during the session, extra icy cold water, and an icy pole at the end to top off a fun afternoon of riding.

We are looking forward to next week’s session focusing on Westside Trail, Mulga Bill. The focus will be on downhill riding; body positioning, vision, and controlling our speed effectively.

If you have an interest in coming along, you can join any time, sign up through our Operoo Ex-Activity Form.
